Is it because of not being promoted properly by his promoters ie Top Rank etc? Is it because of bad management of his career by himself and his team?

I have read he is a gym rat and that he goes into Marvin Hagler war mode before fights where he completely disconnects himself from his family, friends in training camp in obscurity and outside fights he just spends time in privacy with his family, friends and doesn't allow anyone access to himself.

I have watched his interviews and the man is very dull and uncharacteristic. If only Floyd could give him tips on how to successfully promote himself. It's criminal how a fighter of such talents, ring iq, ability under pressure is a terrible under achiever from a career earnings, box office point of view.

    No. Full stop.

The only thing it has to do with is Crawford himself.

Crawford doesn't engage in promoting the fight. Period. He doesn't say much, doesn't trash talk and looks, for all intents and purposes, like he'd rather be anywhere else than in prefight discussions or interviews.

Add the fact that his two best wins are very recent in Porter and Spence and you have a guy with a personality, outside the ring, reminiscent of wet cardboard who doesn't hype up anything to bring in the casuals.

Mayweather Jr. became a huge PPV draw because he made himself the bad guy. The guy who had millions and flaunted it in your face. The guy who trash talked the world, saying he was "The Best Ever".

People paid not to see Myweather fight but for the chance to see him lose.

As Garcia versus Tank showed thrills, not necessarily skills, pay the bills in this era.

Lack of decent opponents. If he had been born 10 years earlier, there would have been a lot of good fights out there for him and he would be much more known.

He was poorly promoted by Top Rank.
To a moron, a man of good character is "boring" while a foul-mouthed fool is entertaining.

Someone has to sell the fight and if you're getting punched in the head for a living, doing a bit of smack talk and playing up to build up a character that will make you millions is worth it. Floyd did it expertly. Fury did it. Even Wilder did it although Wilder has been mismanaged horrifically. Only just now is Wilder just getting the attention he should but it's far too late. You have to build on it and keep the momentum going.

some get very lucky like AJ, basically gifted by a corrupt home Olympic event then manufactured by Eddie Hearn but even though he's been financially success he's failed as the heavyweight he was marketed to be.

Look at Usyk. The most talented mofo around and was lucky a golden opportunity with a bodybuilder bum at HW came about. A dumb promoter named Eddie Hearn thought that Usyk would be an easy scalp for AJ. LOL.

after all these years I still can’t work out what the deal was with the Pacquiao-Horn robbery, if Top Rank was involved in it

an emphatic win over Pac would have put Crawford over. battering a bogan schoolteacher did absolutely nothing for him other than get him an easy 147 belt

Not charismatic, no real personality to speak of, no controversies surrounding him (not that controversy is a good thing - but controversy gets your name in headlines and gets people talking about you, i.e. Floyd, Fury, Canelo, Tank etc.)

Also hasn't fought many big-name opponents until Porter and Spence recently.

wouldnt shock me if the PBC is lying about those ppv estimates vs errol spence jr.( al haymon never wanted to make this fight) The gate was excellent, intrest was really high among even some casuals. And i know showtime boxings youtube channel isnt the best source of confirmation but the fight highlights on both the pbc and showtime boxing channel were both #1 and #2 trending for 3 straight days after the fight.

PBC does not like making fights that have a black boxer vs another black boxer. They only sell black vs mexican, black vs white, or white vs hispanic. Floyd mayweather alluded to this years ago in an interview with brian kenny

Well he has now joined Erroll Spence as a PPV star. Upwards of 675K is no joke with a live gate of $20 Million. Both brothers have made bank.

Arum did GREAT promoting him. He built him up from scratch to the biggest TV contracts, events & titles and invested FAR MORE than got in return, which was Bud calling him racist.

There's only so much someone else can do to make you look charismatic and capture the imagination of the public. Ali had all the swag, eloquence, sense of social justice & engagement w/the African-American community as one could ask for. Pac's flashy KO style & Asian heritage brought millions to the screen worldwide. Floyd talked smack and beat the smack out of you. DLH brought the looks and the huge PAYING Latino community. Klitschos combined class w/devastating power.

Crawford is a throwback boxing fan's smooth operator w/no obvious special effects as far as the general public is concerned, no charisma or engagement with his community that doesn't pay the extra dollar anyway. And he came up at the wrong time missing fighting Tito, DLH, Mosely, Pac, Hatton, Cotto etc.

Bud's tremendously talented but so was Hopkins who only really found respectable success in his late 30s once beating several HOFs in a row. Crawford has so far faced none. Zero.

He’s not Ryan Garcia. People put him down as a fighter rightfully so, but he knows how to move the needle with social media. Jake Paul is the same. He says **** that get people mad and interested. They know how to sell themselves, they are showmen. They learned from floyd what captures the attention of this newer generation. Outlandish trash talk. Crawford just boxes.
