Why has there not been another Hagler/Hearns round one in 24 years?

I think Pacquaio vs Marquez I was rather close (minus the knock downs).

The thing is, most of the top fighters, especially when fighting top fighters, have too much on the line to just go in and brawl like Hagler and Hearns.
There's too much money on the line and careers that can take a major hit with one big loss.

So instead, the best fighters use the first round to size up their opponent and kind of see how they move and what they are angling at. THen, in the later rounds, you get the slugfest.

I think it`s hilarious that people think that fight was overrated... The thing with Hagler/Hearns. Is that you had two bona fide punchers, both supremely confident. Who wanted to come out and get each others respect. And basically run over each other. There wasn`t one second of feeling out. Two gunslingers, walked out of their corners, and just opened fire on each other. Larry Merchant said it was two great fighters, willing to totally put themselves at risk. I was at the fight with my Dad, live. Overrated??? No one sat during the fight, ask the 15,000 people who screamed themselves hoarse if they thought it was overrated...

While that first round was amazing. I think I have seen much better rounds. Let's be real, Hagler plan was putting his head down and swing for the fences. Can't blame him, You can't allow Hearns to establish that jab. Hearns didn't grab him. That wasn't smart either. But it made a hell of a fight!!

Allow me to clarify. I am talking about Hagler's tactic in the first round. He did a great job after that. They were both two crazy in the first round. They forgot boxing, they were banging. But once they settle down a little it was a great fight!

Isn't that what made it great in the first place?

Hagler deciding to change up and turn into a whirlwind and Hearns fighting back and doing his own share of good work.

There have been many rounds that were as exciting from an action point of view, but none will ever be as famous or last as long in the memory because boxing isn't as mainstream as it was in 1985, so less people see these rounds.

Torres Holt was not better than Hagler/Hearns. Why do you guys say that? I saw that matchup and the fight was a quick fight lasting about a minute. Hagler/Hearns went the whole one round and both guys were rocked and sustained action. Torres/Holt was over too quick.

I don't think so. That first round was intense. Even if we didn't know who Hagler and Hearns were , that round had both guys hurt in the first minute and sustained action with no knockdowns. I have never seen a first round like Hagler/Hearns in any fight or level, and I have been watching boxing for 30 years.

That is what I say. Where are they? They have to be on tape. The only first rounds I remember like Hagler/Hearns is Mancini/Frias.
