Why has Usyk switched trainers so much?

Anatoly Lomachenko trained him as an Olympian. Already as a professional, Usyk (for some reason, it's not completely clear) decided to leave Basir to work with Papachenko again. But that again never happened in fact -- Lomachenko Sr. himself when asked by a journalist said that "Usyk trains himself now". I believe somewhere at this time Russ Anber had "materialized", but he's not an acoomplished trainer, I would say, and also he can't be with Usyk most of the time, because Usyk lives and trains in Ukraine.
This guy now, Sergiy Vatamanyuk, I'm not sure who he is, frankly speaking. He trains Usyk and Berinchyk (http://boxrec.com/en/boxer/727039) but I guess lacks experience at this elite level of boxing.

 

Because hes 2Slyck for one trainer.

 

I've just found an explanation by Usyk himself why they decided to part ways with James Ali Bashir. Unfortunately, it's not in English and Usyk speaks quite fast here so it would be a lot of text to type to translate it.

But the main points are:
1). Usyk's demands for a trainer were quite high -- Ukrainian/Soviet style (spend a lot of time together, almost every day is meticulously planned, etc. etc.);
2). Ali Bashir's way was quite different -- let's call it American style (more relaxed, much less attention/time to the boxer);
3). Usyk respects Ali Bashir and feels sorry they parted in a quite unpleasant way (now they communicate from time to time).

 

Sergiy Vatamanyuk is part of Papa Loma's team.

 

It should be noted, that a unique thing happened on Saturday night, in fact — it was the first time in professional boxing that Anatoly "Papachenko" Lomachenko was a trainer to a boxer other than his own son. Because he trained the Ukrainian Olympic boxing team and he was a trainer to them within the WSB (https://www.worldseriesboxing.com) but on the professional ring he trained only Vasiliy.

Usyk did a good job keeping it secret, but now it's clear that, after having parted ways with Vatamanyuk (shortly after the Briedis fight), he sought help from Anatoly and asked him to be his trainer. Most probably, for the Gassiev fight only — because usually Usyk's and Lomachenko's camps are in different parts of the world (Lomachenko in Oxnard and Usyk in Ukraine or Europe) or simply because Papachenko is generally fully occupied with preparing his son, but this time, due to Loma's injure, he was available.

 

But, as I said, Lomachenko's main training camps are in Oxnard, California. It's usually two months before the fight. So, if Loma has three fights a year, for example, he spends half a year in America. Also, even in Ukraine they live quite far apart from each other — Lomachenko in Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi and Usyk in Kyiv. That's about 473 km (295 miles) "as the crow flies".

 

To develop different facets to his game.

 

A correction: my bad, the very first professional fight (against Felipe Romero) Usyk did fight with Anatoly Lomachenko as his trainer.

 

He hasn't been able to find one he can Feel so far.

 

But it wasn't like "Oh, I guess I need different facets to my game, let's get rid of this trainer!"

Let's lay it all out:
1) The first professional fight (2013, vs. Felipe Romero) — Anatoly Lomachenko is the main trainer, Vatamanyuk is in the corner as well;
2) Starting from the second pro fight (2013, vs. Epifanio Mendoza) — James Ali Bashir (with Vatamanyuk there as well, as a second trainer, I guess);
After the Krzysztof Glowacki fight (2016) Ali Bashir was fired, some of the reasons are in this thread (just scroll the page up, the fourth post)

3) 2016, vs. Thabiso Mchunu — Russ Anber as a trainer;
I guess after the fight they all decided that Anber wasn't necessarily ready (I'm not sure whose decision it was)

4) 2017, vs. Michael Hunter — Vatamanyuk as a trainer;
In 2018 Usyk comes to a conclusion that Vatamanyuk's nice guy and his buddy, but not good enough to be his trainer at this level.

5) 2018, vs. Murat Gassiev — Anatoly Lomachenko.

The future is unclear now, because Lomachenko is expected to fight in December, and he (as long as his father, obviously) will be in the US, preparing for that fight. Usyk should think hard once again what to do next...

 

It will also likely have to do with whom he fights. If Usyk does go back to the states, he could easily end up in Lomachenko's camp. But how long would that last?
With Usyk traveling so much, it might be hard for him to find the right trainer. Egis Klimas has his work cut out for him.

 

Yes, but Anatoly wasn't in his training camp at all. He wrote training programm for Usyk, but arrived in Ukraine just few days before the fight. And Papachenko himself adviced Usyk to find a new trainer because he couldn't controll his training camp. Now I think that Anatoly Lomachenko will be in Usyk's corner and will run his whole training camp only in cases of especially dangerous fights like against Joshua, Wilder.

 

I've heard from numerous sources that Usyk had issues with how feel his coaches were previously, he is looking for the perfect balance in their feelness.
