Because Showtime wanted to build either him or Dirrell into the next US money making machine. Most people can't stand Dirrell though so he was almost fed to the wolves in fighting Froch then Abraham. If he came through that he'd then have had to fight Ward so at least one of them comes through. Ward got the easiest draw in faded former champ Kessler, in his home town even though Kessler was the bigger name and favourite and then would've had to fight an even more washed up Jermain Taylor.. only to be replaced by world number 24 Allan Green.
Because Showtime want to give him every advantage to win the tournament, even getting the refs to let him get away with his awful mauling headbutt style there'd be uproar if a European fighter had gotten home advantage for every fight
Yeah the yanks have earmarked him as the next big thing in American boxing - a young, black, well mannered family man that is deeply religious. Tells you eveything right there. They want him to be big and so are making the path as clear as possible, it's pretty obvious when you look at the facts
Floyd's a fair bit better on the eye than Ward imo. I find with Ward that I can admire his work for a couple of rounds but after that I find myself losing interest a little.
