Why hasn't Bute been able to close negotiations with anyone?

Bute started his pro career late, and by the time he was getting noticed, the S6 had already started. The were no real opportunities before that.

It does not matter anyway, there are no signs of aging on Bute's part. There will be big fights in the future in this division and the one above it, and Bute is going to be part of all that action.

So, Kessler taking on bigger challenges than Bute has at a younger age than Bute makes Bute look good how?

Of course kessler was taking on bigger challenges at a younger age because he started his pro career when he was 19 yo. Bute started at 23 - this is where the difference is coming from.

And there is another thing. It is not clear how many fights are left in kessler, bute on the other hand still has plenty of mileage left.

I think he's talented but his resume is too poor to be an excuse imo. Bute fans will blame Kessler for avoiding a fight and maybe he has a little but Kessler has fought a few tough opponets and wanted the Bute fight 2-3 years ago and Bute's team said ''Bute isn't ready yet.'' He's basically stalled until he thought he had a better chance against him. Calzaghe takes critism for his resume but he had fought Eubank and Reid at this stage of his career. I think Bute lost to Andrade really but I do think he is a lot better than he's had the chance to prove yet.

Bute is a solid, regional champion.

On November 22nd of this year Bute will celebrate the 8th anniversary of his professional debut. Around the time of that anniversary he will face Kelly Pavlik who is just one fight removed from being the undisputed middleweight champion of the world. (He'll be two fights removed when he faces Bute this fall.)

Andre Ward will not reach his 8th pro anniversary until December of 2012. A lot could happen between now and then, so I am not going to speculate about what he might be doing when his 8th anniversary arrives. At this point his resume' looks pretty damn good for a six and a half year professional. However, his signature win was a controversial fight with a half blind Kessler. (Check the facts. Kessler had eye problems before he entered the S-6.)

Around the time of Froch's 8th anniversary he faced a half blind Mikkel Kessler, and lost. Prior to that his best wins were a controversial split decision with an 18 fight prospect, a half shot Jermain Taylor, and Pascal who just lost to a 46 year old man.

Around the time of Kessler's 8th anniversary he fought Marcus Beyer. Beyer's most notable opponents were Eric Lucas and a relatively green Bika. Kessler could be facing Bute this fall, and at this point in time I think Bute/Kessler makes more sense than Bute/Pavlik, but Kessler chose to take an easier-softer route, and this is not the first time he did that.

Around the time of Pavlik's 8th professional anniversary he was undisputed middleweight champion of the world, and became the first and only man who ever won a decision over Jermain Taylor.

Box Rec's rankings usually suck, but at this point in time I think they have the top 5 at 168 just about right. I might be tempted to rearrange the order a bit, but I do believe Box Rec has the correct top 5. I presented them here in the Box Rec order.

If you look closely, and give it a bit of thought, you will no doubt realize that the guy with the very best and most legitimate signature win at the 8 year mark was Pavlik. That inconvenient little fact should go a long way toward proving that you can't judge a fighter by what he is doing around the 8 year mark. Pavlik was on one hell of a run: Made Zuniga quit, Stopped McKart in a mere 6 rounds, Damn near beat the black off Miranda, knocked out Taylor at middleweight, and out pointed Taylor at super middleweight. All the indicators were that Kelly Pavlik was about to set the boxing world on fire. That's not exactly how things turned out, is it?

Bute is no where near 32 in ring years because he just hasn't been in many wars. He does not have a lot of wear and tear on him. He probably has a good solid 3 or even 4 years left in him. We ought to let him finish out his career before we start talking about who he did, or did not, climb in the ring with.

you know what, you are right, the 8 year anniversary is pretty much all that matters. It's certainly how
i view a fighter. I don't care about before or after, just the 8 year extravaganzaa.

Exactly, without his 20+ second count ref's for when he goes down he is not sure if he can pull it off.

He has an agenda, it's always easier to ignore good post than trying to answer. I think it's the case here.

He pretends he didn't see that post blowing his crap outta the water, then runs off when it's pointed to him. Cowardly troll...they aren't difficult to spot. :smoke

Yes, we have heard this "Bute isn't ready yet for Kessler" several times. Which may seem strange knowing that they are of a similar age. Anyway - jst like you say Bute apparently has just been avoiding Kessler until Kessler was injured or he saw some other weakness in Kessler. And now when Bute suddenly wants the fight.. some Bute-fans give Kessler flack for taking another route?

Standards are good... apparently double-standards are twice as good. :patsch

    ___

Oh, and this "Bute went pro late.. so...." Well, sometimes fighters turn pro late..that just means that they don't have the time (and have had more time to develop as amateurs) and has to (and usually can) speed up progress. For example, Tarver went pro late, and 5 years after turning pro Tarver had met: Reggie Johnson, Eric Harding (twice!), Montel Griffin, Roy Jones Junior and so on. 5 years. Again just a bad excuse. Unless Bute has some medical condition of slow physical or mental development... he should have met real opposition years ago.
