Why hasn't Naseem Hamed been inducted into the IBHOF?

If he was Irish he'd be in.
    (Barry McGuigan cited as evidence.)

Hamed is of Yemeni parentage, and last time he was in a US boxing ring he recited the Qu'ran before a major PPV fight. It was part of his act, his Islam. Along with some cheesy dancing and entering the arena on a flying carpet.

Anyway, 5 months after that fight (which he lost), some Yemeni Islamists flew some planes into some skyscrapers in New York City. You may have heard about it in the news. People died and stuff.

Getting back to topic, I have no idea why Naseem Hamed, the Yemeni muslim fighter who likes to fly around on a carpet, hasn't been invited to Canastota, New York to be inducted into the IBHOF.

Why exactly should Hamed get in? Being completely overrated across the pond, putting on sub par performances when he stepped up outside of his comfort zone, and getting dominated by the best fighter you faced who happened to be a smaller, cherry picked opponent (people forget he chose Barrera because he was smaller and thought to be damaged goods) to the point that you basically quit the sport is not the stuff of legends.

If Sheffield has a hall of fame thats about the extent of where he should be. Im not even sure they want him given his in the ring and out of the ring antics.

Anyone who followed Hamed's career in the 90s will think he deserves entry. Every featherweight who made big money in that era has him to thank, including Pacquiao, Barrera, and Morales. Hamed brought life and attention to the featherweight division like no other. The first million dollar feather. He probably was the most physically gifted featherweight ever - blazing speed, reflexes, and unreal power for that weight division. His awkward unorthodox ambidextrous style was both awe-inspiring and curious. Not since Ali did a guy find such success breaking all of the conventional rules. And the brash personality, the hubris, the ring entrances, and the way he garnered fans to his fights, all injected real life into boxing. Plus he had some really cool knockouts, and the Kevin Kelley fight has to be the greatest featherweight fight of all time. But he also deserves entry for his resume. He fought and beat a lot of really good experienced fighters, many of whom were or would be champions.

The point is the IBHOF sells packages to people so they can meet the inductees. No Naseem means no (or unlikely) entry.

Weren't there talk of him moving up in weight during his championship days, all the way up to lightweight and possibly even light welterweight?

Even talk of a future match-up with a then up and coming young upstart called Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Shame that all these plans came to nothing because of one defeat to Barrera.

Agree. Awesome Post. Let's start a petition? First time I saw him fight
was on vacation in Cali back in 2000 caught a fight on tv was amazed. I believe Naz got dropped as well. But yeah he deserves the nod, politics.

The reality is up until the Robinson fight this kid was an awesome box / fighter. After that he believed in his own hype whereby all he had to do was connect with one of his bombs, with either hand and it was all over. Hence the hand problems, and lack of dedicated training.

But make no mistake Naz was a great fighter, and more than deserves to be inducted.

As for this Yemeni / Muslim ****. So fvcking what? For years plenty of " Irish " Americans were sending money, and weapons to the FVCKING IRA so that they could commit atrocities in mainland Britain without crying over it. So why the fvck do they want to scream over a couple of office blocks? Or is it just the NUMBER of innocent dead people they are making an issue of?

The "INTERNATIONAL" aspect of the International Boxing Hall of Fame is a joke.
It's an appendage of flad-waving crusading Yankee imperialism.
Zionists have their hand in too, no doubt.

Hence, no Arab muslims boxers allowed. Certainly not ones who recite Qu'ran over the microphone in the arena.

Even Donald Curry hasn't be allowed in the Great Satan Boxing Hall of Fame.
If his name was Donald Hotdog he would have been in first ballot.
