It was disgusting. He got sent to the neutral corner. Lazcano was reprimanded again for the same BS that Ricky was doing. And he got at least 2 minutes reprieve to clear his head. ****ing disgusting. He has his hometown advantage, his own refs, and even his own world title. Can you imagine if he fights Paulie its actually being billed as a unification bout? They must really think fight fans are that stupid. It was simply another average peformance against a guy who hadnt fought in 18months. For me Lazcano did himself proud.

 

I've read everything he said. If I missed out on something it was an common mistake, so please let me know if I'm ranting against a point he isn't even making.

Witter made an offer to the Hatton camp, which included a ridiculously high percentage of the purse, considering he brings no money to the table. The Hatton's rightfully rejected but came back with an offer for Witter, which was more than he had ever made previously. He rejected it out of greed.

 

regarding the first point, it's all about risk v reward and Hatton's aversion to risk. Fallow stated why fighting a guy like Judah would be different from fighting Tszyu or Mayweather.
Please don't give us Castillo....the overwhelming consensus before the fight was that he was shot.
I admit I picked Tszyu over Hatton and got it wrong, partly because Hatton turned out to be better than the WBU turkey I thought he was, partly down to the hometown factor, and partly because Tszyu (with the benefit of hindsight) did indeed have one foot in retirement. He's notr come close to coming back since and said after beating Mitchell again that he was retiring. I have a pro punter friend from Oz who was all over 2/1 Hatton that night because of this, I didn't listen.
But Castillo was done, no doubts.

second point.....please provide some evidence of this. When? how much?
all the evidence suggested it was Hatton ducking down the years. Witter offered to fight for feck all a few times.

But Judah is a bigger draw than Tszyu in America. His fight with Cotto garnered more interest than any Tszyu bouts I can remember. If it was about risk vs. reward, then Judah offers less risk and more reward than Tszyu.

Not really. I checked editions of The Ring magazine before the fight and they thought Castillo has a good chance. Someone challenged me to find some quotes from ESB prior to the fight, so when I was trawling through the threads before the bout happened, most people picked Hatton but some did pick Castillo. Some said he was old, based off the Ngoudjo fight alone, but Hatton wasn't the everwhelming favourite. I think a few polls were in between 60-40 and 70-30, which is respectable considering Hatton was undefeated and looking good, whereas Castillo was coming off a stinker against Ngoudjo.

The difference is that Veit is physically smaller than Haye. His chest isn't as big, his biceps aren't, his neck isn't and so on. If you look at the numbers, Hatton and Pacquiao are very similar in size.

The Cotto fight was big because of the drawing power of COTTO, not Judah. Just listen to the crowd during the entrances to see the proportion of Cotto fans to Judah fans.

I was one of the 30,000+ fans to attend Tszyu vs Leija. There weren't many Leija fans there, I can assure you. :yep


The Tszyu fight was both greater reward AND greater risk than Judah.

While you make some legitimate points during your post, I want to point out that in places you are being unfair towards Hatton and using "heads-I-win, tails-you-lose" logic. If Hatton doesn't fight top contenders, doesn't move out of his normal weight class and fights on home soil, he's a coward. If Hatton moves up in weight to fight the world's pound-for-pound #1 on foreign soil, he's still a coward!
I think it is true that Hatton has carefully for maximum money with minimal risk, but that is nothing unusual in this day and age, he did take a big-risk match in Mayweather, and he does at the least fight with heart and intensity in the ring.
