:deal Still think in his prime at LWW he was a top fighter though, perhaps top 10 all time lww. proper beast shame hes such a fat lazy **** between fights
I'd have to disagree with Hatton being a better fighter but he'll always be more loved. I've already said what I needed to about Calzaghe in a previous post when I first joined ESB. Here it is: ero-sennin on Calzaghe Now I'd like to say that calling a pro fighter a bum was wrong, but it's tongue in cheek, I respect all fighters. Since then, Pacman also got a KO over Hatton which further proves how good he is. Anyway, Hatton on the other hand went after the big fights earlier in his career. He actually fought the p4p best fighter twice! Being undefeated is not everything and I can see why Hatton is more popular. Calzhage's career defining wins are Lacy and Kessler, I don't understand how he can be called a great fighter.
Juan Manuel Marquez Luisito Espinosa Freddie Norwood Erik Morales Junior Jones Kennedy McKinney All guys from Hamed's era either in his division or the neighbouring divisions that he could have fought, and didn't fight. You could write one or two of those off, you could add another one or two, but the fact is Naz did not clean out his division at all. There were quality opponents around in his last couple of years that he didn't fight. He didn't do what Hopkins did to the middleweight division, and you are making out that he did. Were you aware of Marquez, Espinosa or Norwood back then? I doubt it.
The only thing Hatton did better than Calzaghe was leave Warren earlier. That is it. You would never see Calzaghe KOed twice in embarrassing fashion like Hatton was.
Calzaghe was better. Hatton only got as far as he did due to his links with Man City FC and the attendant fan base this afforded him. Since he was a likeable working-class guy a lot of people could identify with him and his popularity fed on itself. Hatton never shied away from publicity (actually he embraced it) the way Calzaghe did earlier in his career. Ricky Hatton's success is more to do with Ricky Hatton the man than Ricky Hatton the fighter. Still Hatton made the most of the not inconsiderable ability he had and only lost at the highest level. Good luck to him.
Calzaghe isnt Welsh! Being born in London to an English mother and Italian father does not make you Welsh!
Your thread is bull****. This thead has had over a 1000 views and loads of replies. Im not saying Im right but alot of people have sided with me over you. So dont come out and say its bullshti when the arguement I put forward is very compelling and suggestable
Don't know a lot about British boxers, do you? Never heard of Lennox Lewis? Ken Buchanan? Bob Fitzsimmons? Jack 'Kid' Berg? Ted 'Kid' Lewis'? Jimmy Wilde?
Ricky Hatton's career was all smoke and mirrors. He disgraced himself and his country when he was embarrassingly knocked out not once but twice. He also quite clearly lost to Luis Collazo who was then shutout by a real world class fighter in Sugar Shane. His 2 best wins were over a very shot Castillo who was then shutout by Lujan, and one of the most corrupt wins I've seen against an old Kosta who then RETIRED - shows how much he was interested in the game. Joe Cortez screwing Hatton in the PBF fight was just karma for an even worse referring performence in the Kosta fight.
Do you consider Hatton's WBU (eh-hem) World title a genuine respected title? If not what do you class Hatton's WBU (eh-hem) World title as in comparison to a WBC/WBA/IBF/WBO world title belt, so please fill in the questionair which is self explanitory: 1) Genuine respected 2) Bogus/Not respected 3) Superior to the WBC/WBA/IBF/WBO 4) WBU belt is a very rare exotic vegetable just like me. 5) WBU belt was given too me by Frank Warren on my 10th birthday If you find the above confusing just tick the ****in lot
Don't be stupid. Hatton would be lucky to make the Top Ten All Time. Calzaghe isn't even the best of this era.
Hatton won a WBF belt, big ****in deal Hatton is a 2 weight genuine world champion and a ring magazine champion at LWW and will go down as one of the best LWW of all time so **** off
