:good All the points you've made are valid, and if you really study those two styles Floyd would clearly have a lot of problems with Pacquiao. He fights in a linear fashion, doesnt give lateral movement, doesnt put punches together. You can't name a single guy who fought Pac the way Floyd does it and had success.

Your right in your comparison to the Joshua Clottey fight. There is a similarity there. If you've seen Floyd fight a southpaw it isn't a whole lot different from he did. He stays behind a tight guard, looks to land single punches (potshot) , and cover up. Floyd does it with more skill obviously and he's a better counter puncher too but the point is that style feeds into Pacquiao style. It's never a good idea to stand in front of Pac, and Floyd actually lives off of standing right in front of his opponent. He doesn't use his feet or exploit angles that much. He'll back off, or go forward, but there's little to no lateral movement. He's very mechanical in the way he fights. That type of style is tailor-made for Pacquiao. Floyd's big advantage in that fight is his size / reach, that's his equalizer. But he actually gives up ground because he likes fighting in the pocket so much.

 

as if you knew how to study to notice Floyd isn't lateral movement happy. you saw bogo post it up and then immediately grabbed for the lifeline.

 

That was all I was trying to say these posters. I never said Clottey was better than Floyd, I just said there were a lot of similarties in the 2 and that he would obviously have to take more chances if he fought Pac and he would also have to go back to the lightweights days when he potshotted Corrales to a dominating vicotry and when he potshotted his way to a victory against Jose Luis Castillo in the 2nd fight.

If he ever tried to impose hisself on Pac like he did Mosley, he'll get his ass whipped, I'll bet money mid way thru the fight If he starting doing that.

See bald_head_tard, boxing doesnt work like this and just shows you dont have a deep understanding of the sport. Mayweather being faster or bigger then JMM doesnt qualify as an automatic win, there are million other factors, specifically styles / habits , and aside from being defensive minded JMM and Floyd fight nothing alike.

JMM is a rhythmic fighter who understands the importance of lateral movement, great combination puncher, good counter puncher, utilizes different angles with his feet and punches. Floyd is a mechanical, methodical type of fighter who picks you off with singles shots, and looks to cover up or counter. It's a completely different situation. If you break it right down, JMM is a tougher fight for Pac then Floyd is , just based on styles.

Floyd has advantages in size /reach, but you have to realize he's so prone to fighting in the pocket he gives up his reach advantage anyway. Look at him fighting southpaws, he never uses his reach advantage, he moves right into the pocket. That'll play right into Pacquiao hands . Pac eats up stationary / linear targets. And Floyd isnt keeping him off by throwing one punch at a time and covering up. Pac can eat up a counter shot or a lead and come right back with a flurry, hes shown that time and time again. What made JMM so difficult is that he throws combinations, he flurries with Pacquiao and backs him off - that and using distance and constant lateral movement to offset Pacquiao and keep him off balance.
