Why I Belive Calzaghe will beat Hopkins

Hopkins cannor KO JC unless he does a DLH (unlikely but possible). Expect the dirtiest fight ever

 

Depends on how you look at it.

Young Hopkins was an animal. An "Executioner" so to say...and hense came the name (tho it was originally "The Terror"...LOL, doesnt have the same ring to it tho... )...but if you ask me, this was far from a prime Hopkins.

Physical prime, maybe...but as his physical tools started to wane, he became more cerebral...more of a defensive master...more of a fighter who relied on otherworldly timing (along with unreal ring intellect, movement, etc...) as opposed to brute force and power. If you ask me...it was right around the Holmes fight when Bernard became the fighter who jumped from GREAT to ALL TIME GREAT!!!

I think to call his younger self his prime kinda takes away from the fact that he not only got better with age (much better) but the fact that THAT FACT only adds to his greatness.

I dont know...just my opinion...

 

I'm so tired of this "He THROWS 10000000000 PUNCHES A FIGHT THERE IS NO WAY HOPKINS WILL WIN" .

Does every JC lover understand that throwing 100 punches a round does not mean the end of the world for the opponent?? You people don't think Hopkins has been through enough fights where he can adjust? Or maybe in his training camp he is figuring out ways to lower his output? Maybe JC greatest strength (high punch output) will become his weakness? Any of you guys thought about that?? You honestly think just because he throws so many punches that he is going to automatically win?

Stop sleepin on Hopkins for Godsakes, understand that its going to take everything Calzaghe has to beat Hopkins..

I honestly do not believe Calzaghe can beat him. Maybe i'm the only one here, oh well

 

Hopkins really has not lost as much as most seem to think-he is a very "young" 43.

 

I know Calzaghe has other strengths besides the high output but honestly everytime i read something about reasons for Hopkins losing, the # 1 reason is JCS high output of punches?? I honestly see those 100 punches per round as WEAKNESS for JC and an Advantage for Hopkins.. I mean, who better to throw 100 off balance punches to than Bernard Hopkins?? I think JC will be exposed..

I mean seriously watch JCs fights his 100 punches and stuff this guy is like OFF BALANCE, he is SO OPEN to counter shots. Does anyone see what I see in JC?? Yeah he throws lots of punches but he is all over the place with them.

Jc is light on his feet yes but very clumsly it seems to me. Hopkins seems so much more organized and in control with his punches eventhough he does not throw as many as JC.

And I keep reading how this will be Hopkins toughest fight to date, that he has never faced anyone as good as JC.. Are you serious? It's the other way around, this is JCs TOUGHEST and BIGGEST fight of his career. Hopkins has proven himself JC has not. How do you determine a fighter is good? By the level of opposition he has faced. That's why they say Ali is the greatest heavyweight champ cuz NO ONE IN HISTORY FOUGHT AND BEAT THE CALIBER OF GUYS HE DID.

The idea that Joe will still throw as many punches as he normally does is almost out of the question. He will be leary of Hopkin's counters. Not to mention, he will be fighting at a heavier weight then normal. He isn't stupid. He's not going to go in guns a blazin. Hopkins is a hard, accurate counter-puncher who can picks his punches, and Joe's probably aware of that. But Hops can throw more when necessary. One thing that made his output so low against Taylor was Taylor wasn't that much more active with his punches. Joe will be. It'll allow Hopkins more looks and openings. And I think the later it goes, the less pop Joe's punches will have.

 

What people fail to acknowledge is that Joe Calzaghe has too much respect for Bernard Hopkins. Of course, he used to watch Benn and Eubank and imagine himself in that position back in 1993 when he was making a pro debut, and then he beat Eubank in 1997... But, Calzaghe beat Bika and said to Max Kellerman that he loved to see the 41 year old Hopkins performance against Antonio Tarver and that he would get up for that and that fight only, the he would 100 % fight Hopkins in the States and that would be nothing less than the fight of the decade... Warren and Calzaghe have mentioned Hopkins name repeatedly - Warren saying that Hopkins is the right man to provide that defining fight for Joe, Calzaghe almost begging Hopkins to come to Wales and to the Millenium Stadium, they both keep on saying that Hopkins can't run away anymore and has nowhere else to go... You guys don't realise Kessler name just came up because Mikkel stopped Beyer in the same night Calzaghe beat Bika. Otherwise, he would never have thought about a big fight with Kessler... Even Max Kellerman said clearly so - that Calzaghe was undeniably world class stuff back then, and Kessler was a good contender for Calzaghe but Calzaghe would prove nothing by beating Kessler... He would only prove himself GREAT against Hopkins ( or Taylor back then) and in the US. I personally feel a whole lot of respect from Calzaghe for Hopkins and that he would personally feel absolutely satisfied even with a narrow points decision over Bernard and therefore, Calzaghe won't come blasting in April 19th... He was tentative against Starie ( undercard of Tyson-Francis) and against Bika just because he was in Showtime TV and the american public was watching him. How do you think his mind will work in Vegas and against Hopkins? The guy throws double jabs, a left here and there, jumping in and out and keeps his fingers crossed so that the judges feel that he is controlling the fight. He would only go for the kill, for all or nothing if he was feeling that the fight was about to be lost. I tell you with 99% certainty - Calzaghe will hold on if Bernard comes hitting him hard down the stretch, he will not engage into a punch-up, never he would do so with so much at stake... Calzaghe is one step away from retiring undefeated and having been more than 10 years as a World Titlist, you all know that as well as I do.
