1. He defended that worthless Warren Boxing Orginsation strap against a bunch of nobodies. 2. He was happy with fighting these weak mandatories and didn't give a **** about his fans who wanted to see him face the best. 3. He wasted his natural talent fighting these nobodies instead of looking for the best fighters in his division. 4. He claims he wanted to fight RJJ and Bhop and they turned him down in the early 2000's. Well I want to be a billionaire but if I don't take drastic steps to become one how the hell will I get there? ** 5. His obssesion with being undefeated is one of the problems with boxing today. You win some you lose some, as long as you fight the best you'll be recognised by the true fans. 6. His rematch with Mario Veit was just disgraceful. If this wasn't a sign to drop the WBOgus strap then I don't know what was. How in the hell can you rematch someone you Ko'd in 1 round!! How could you Joe!? We paid our sky subsription and this is what you do to us. 7. If it wasn't for Jeff Lacy wanting to fight the best JC would probably be having his trilogy with Mario Veit. THe Lacy win was impressive but I was one of the few who know Lacy had little to know chance. Some fans were using bicep size as their prediction of who would win the fight. I had since moved to the states and some guys were mocking me after Lacy tko'd Robin Reid.I kept insisting Calzaghe would beat Lacy. 8. If he would have dropped that belt he could have went to Germany and be at the crap out of that piece of **** Sven Otke. Sven needed to be seperated from them belts and Joe was the only man in he division with the skills, heart and determination to beat Otke, the judges and referee. He could have spared us one of the worst robberies in the history of boxing. (If anyone has seen Otke vs Reid I suggest you don't. It will make you want to smash your tv/monitor) 9. Ducked Glen Johnson twice. 10. He then finally gets a fight against bhop and gets a questionable decision against a 43yr old! To be fair Bhop did alot of spoiling but it just put into perspective how well Jc would have done with a 2002 Hopkins. 11. After admitting a RJJ fight made no sense he still goes ahead with the fight. The ghost of RJJ managed to hurt and drop JC. What would a 1995-2002 Jones done to JC!!? In a sense I can understand JC have a money fight but he should have given us one more fight against a legitamite threat. He should have Ko'd Jones that night. This was a Jones who was Ko'd for ten minutes against the same Glen Johnson he ducked. 12. He then retires and proclaims "boxing is dead". Nice one Joe. 13. This is less to do with Joe and more a complaint about his fans. Some of them are delusional assholes who only knew who he was after the Lacy fight. When I lived in the UK hardly anyone knew who he was. Now he gets sports personality of the year!LOL how times have changed. **If Joe really wanted to fight the best he would have DEMANDED warren get him the big fight. Ricky Hatton DEMANDED Warren get him the fight with the baddest man in his division and one of the pound 4 pound best in Kostya Tzyu. I respect Hatton more than Calzaghe based on the fact he wants the best win or lose. Just look at his resume. He beat a Kostya Tzyu who looked like a beast in destroying Sharmba Mitchell in 3 rounds. Not many gave Hatton a chance but he still fought him. The Kessler fight showed just how could JC could be, its such a shame he didin't go to the states in 2000. I think he would have been a household name and been so much more. Unfortuntely Kessler is the best name on his resume and he has since ducked Edison Miranda. I could go on and on (Peter Manfredo) but I've got things to do. Thanks for listening, God Bless.
Just a query, but if you were a former fan exactly how long ago was that? Several of your points were 7-8 years ago! Its also strange that you mentioned Hatton fighting Tsuyu, but don't give Calzaghe credit for fighting Hopkins in 2008 (who p4p was a much better fighter than Tsuyu when hatton took him on IMO)
yaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwnnnnnn, why pretend you were a former fan, do you think it gives you argument more relevence? lol
Tzyu at the time was the favourite against Hatton. He was also 33 years old. He was admitedly inactive after having a long layoff. But he looked devastating against Mitchell before the Hatton fight. Hopkins was 43 yrs old and the underdog.
I kinda agree basicly with all your points.... just out of curiosity though at what point did you stop being a fan? Personally i used to like him but was never a fan due to his god awefull punching technique that just bothered me.
So you don't disagree with the points made? The point is JC is vastly overrated and i'm giving my reasons as to why he shouldn't be held in such high regard.
High regard? I think you will find ESB pretty much split down the middle on how they rate him. Threads like this one were daily not so long ago. Now they are like just once every 3 days.
Considering their overall skillsets Hopkins was a better win still IMO. Hopkins may be 43, but there is no point mentioning his age really as he's still operating at a very high level despite his age. Physically id argue Tsuyu had more wear and tear at 33 than Hopkins at 43. Im not saying it wasnt a very good win for Hatton or anything - I just felt it was a bit unfair praising hatton for the tsuyu win whilst downplaying calzaghe's win over Hopkins by saying "he beat a 43 year old man" etc.
