*Why I dislike Joe Calzaghe (from a former fan)

I'm not making out that Calzhage is any less welsh. All im saying is it's abit peculiar why his father wanted his son to play football for italy but not box for italy.

 

Well yeak it's KingKrish's opinion too, but that doesn't mean he's not trolling when he finds a slightly different (or sometimes exactly the same) pretext for starting yet another thread about it every few days.

Quite mystified as to why you feel the need to post it now, months after Calzaghe retired. Did you finish watching the Calzaghe v Veit mandatory rematch and think "oooh, I'm so angry, I'm going to wait for four years and then give Calzaghe such a bashing on the internet for that one"?

He was born in London because his parents were travelling from Italy to Wales while she was heavily preggo. She went into labour in London...what do you expect them to do....hang on until they are over the Welsh border? :yep

Manfredo? You are showing a real lack of knowledge when you don't know the reasons behind the Manfredo fight.

Calzaghe's mandatory for the WBO belt was Denis Inkin, who was about 30-0 at the time or something. You heard of him at the time? Probably not.

You heard of Peter Manfredo at the time? He just came off the contender and had TKO'd Joey Spina and Scott Pemberton.

HBO wanted Calzaghe to fight Manfredo instead of the unknown Inkin to build his profile in the US, as a prelude to bigger fights.

Get it?

Now I haven't said that any of this (or my previous post) was a good or bad thing. I am not a nuthugger, by any stretch of the imagination.

I'm just stating facts.

i never knew his italian born and bread father married a welsh mother untill a previous poster mentined it. Now i know Calzhage is a 100 percant proper welshman.

 

The fact that Calzaghe's nationality is being mentioned in this argument demonstrates why certian people on here dislike him lol!

 

Theres some valid points and lots of question marks about some of the fights/decisions in Calzaghe career.I'd say most of the questionable fights were down to two things,Frank Warren and Money.

One thing that does puzzle me is how people slag Joe for doing most of his business in Wales,yet scream constantly about Roy Jones being "the man" Jones was self managed and promoted,he ducked all of the big names at the time,Calzaghe,Benn,Eubank,Collins,and also never travelled,so why do we not have thread after thread about how Roy never chased the "big fights" and how he did all his business in the States,cos the fact remains the big fights should have been against European fighters ?

 

Really? I think you have a point. do they hate him for being welsh or italian? or possibly both?

 

Perhaps in future you might consider knowing what you're talking about before posting?
