Even though they had great ability, RJJ AND LENNOX lacked/ never proved the following attributes: Chin: This is a big question mark with jones. lewis was weak in this area Killer Instinct: You need to seize the moment when it comes, in fights against great fighters. both showed that they lacked in this area. both have near enough admitted that they don't have this Great Heart: Both definitely never proved this. They could have had it but they never got the chance to prove it. both have near enough admitted that they don't have this IS WELL To be a great, a fighter has to prove that you have 2 of these attributes. lewis and rjj never proved they had heart and good punch resistance. they showed killer instict in spurts but not all the time. lewis should of ko'd holyfield, and tyson earlier than he did. Thomas hearns never had a good chin but he had great killer instict and heart thus making him a great fighter
Why do people say Lewis's chin was so weak.. It was far from iron but it wasnt pathetic.. McCall and Rahman starched his ass... But if theyre known for anything, what is it..Probably power..(ok, besides McCalls chin..) He took bombs from Vitali and Tua(didnt see the fight, did Tua ever land?)..His chin is not complete ****, but its nothing above average... i give it a C-...And theyre both top 5 in their weightclasses anyways....RJJR is arguabley number one, where people could make a great case to have Lennox at 3 for HW... That ans you said he should have KO'd Holyfield...Who the **** actually ever KO'd Holy? (Not counting stoppages from the corner )
he took a great hiding from douglas, lewis and holyfield and kept coming forward. so i would say yes. he proved his chin and killer instinct. thus making him a great fighter
you are a fool if you don't think lewis and jones are great fighters. Lewis beat everyone that would fight him in his era and is one of the best ten heavyweights of all time. Roy jones was the man before age caught up with him, at supermiddle and his light heavyweight days (before he moved up to heavyweight) he was a beast and was pretty much unbeatable. Also if you doubt lewis's chin watch this video and then say he has a weak chin http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4SQmxIP5Bk
He took a fair bit from Klit and came back to win, which shows more heart than taking punches and giving up 'winning' a contest (which is what Tyson did in both the Holy and Lewis fights).
I'm getting tired of repeating this argument, but alright: Lewis didn't have a Chuvalo-like chin, but he took quite some shots anyway. Mind you, Briggs, Tua, Klitschko, Mercer, Bruno, Mason and others all got shots in and what happened? Nothing, Lewis didn't go anywhere. He was only down twice, both against legitimate big men, not 180lb Coopers, Marshals or Braddocks. The first one he got up but was taken away his chance to prove his heart by a premature stoppage and the second came at age 35 when most of the all time greats had already retired. I suggest you watch Lewis vs Golota, Lewis vs Ruddock, Lewis vs Mercer, Lewis vs Rahman II, Lewis vs Grant, Lewis vs Botha, Lewis vs Briggs and Lewis vs Bruno. He showed great killer instinct in all of those. He destroyed Golota when he saw he stunned him (the very definition of killer instinct), same goes for the Ruddock and Botha fights. Grant took the fight to him and Lewis took his shot and took him out. Same with Bruno: once he stunned him he didn't let him off the hook and took him out violently. You need to get your facts straight. Just because he didn't want to give his opponents a chance they didn't have doesn't mean he should be less high regarded. The only fights in which he boxed safely were Tua, Tyson and Holyfield. Big ****ing deal. He mopped the floor with all of those in one-sided fights. Again this is unfunded. Have you seen Lewis go to the trenches and get out on top after Mercer took all his best shots and came back with a lot of his own? Did you see him take a hidious beating from Vitali Klitschko while Lewis was 37 years old, yet dig deep to pull out a win? Did you see him being outboxed by Frank Bruno only to pull out the win once again? He showed plenty of heart in those and never quit mentally like Tyson did in some fights. He never quit in the ring like Robinson, Liston, Duran, Johnson and many other great fighters did. Fact. Yeah, he showed great killer instinct when he stopped going close but elected to box safely from a distance from round 7 on against Leonard right? P.S. i would rank a killer instinctless Hearns that lasted one more round and beat Leonard higher than the one that got knocked out in the 14th. :good
