Charles Farrell talks about fights he fixed for Mitch 'Blood' Green, Leon Spinks, Tyrone Booze and others. Great read if you have the time: Link to article: http://deadspin.com/why-i-fixed-fights-1535114232
And considering how it was such an interesting article.. That's why a thread like this only gets a couple of comments on ESB atsch
Wow. This was amazing. I always knew that fights were fixed to an extent in some cases, either through the match making, the refs loyalty to the hometown etc. But this lets you know that sometimes it goes even deeper. I really am not sure if I 100% believe the Peter McNeely thing... I just can't imagine that guy doing that with 1 second left lol. But I think we all just saw a fixed event the other night... Curtis Stevens got a gift from a ref because his promotional company (Main Event) picked up the tab for the entire fight. This article really makes me sad in a way, but as you can see it doesn't always go according to plan. We've seen our share of upsets that have no doubt made promoters cringe. (Ortiz quitting against Maidana, he was a garunteed big draw, Berto not being able to squeak past Karass.) Also from this story, you get the sense that sometimes a fix can go wrong. But at least this guy is bringing this to light. The more people know, the harder it is for a fix to get in.
only low level club fights with 200 people in attendance are fixed no world level fights are fixed. only conspiracy theories with zero proof spout off such drama
World level fights are fixed... one example that he was involved in was Mike Tyson vs. Peter McNeeley 1995-08-19 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oww5zb0XvHg They bet that it would end before 90 seconds, and they had the corner stop the fight at 89 seconds, and won over a million on that one alone.
To be fair I didn't really believe that one. I believe fights are fixed but not often in the sense this guy talks about them. I believe the refs, judges, etc are often on the payroll of whoever organizes the fight and often times the organizer has their own fighters on the card. We know who typically gets decisions in close fights. (Chavez-Vera I for example more powerful promoter's fighter won on the cards much more than he probably should have)
