hbo is in the business of trying to manufacture stars. they bring fighter A to the table...and he may be good...and he may have skill and potential...but then they persist in trying to force feed the public. let lampley call the fight and their fighter can do no wrong and every single thing he does is cheered by the pom pom section. when their guy looks bad, they make excuses or scream controversy with their bull**** lederman score card or lampleys blow by blow/compubox statistics. they did it with hatton, they did it with taylor, they did it with the klitschkos, they do it with pac... hbo is always disrespectful to fighters. rather then letting the chips fall where they may...they feel they have to be experts and know exactly what's going to happen at any given moment. who decided these guys are experts??? what qualifies lampley as an expert? how is max qualified as an expert? all they are is glorified fans with horrible opinions. showtime on the other hand is much more respectful of their fighters. bernstein is very respectful to the sport and you can tell that he is very knowledgeable. he calls the action the way he sees it which is always pretty accurate. steve farhood is excellent too. they don't try to put spin on anything or sugarcoat what we're seeing. it's very accurate. anytime i watch an hbo telecast i find myself cussing at the tv...and eventually turning down the volume because i can't listen to their bull****. with showtime it's the opposite. i turn the volume up because i want to hear what they have to say.
I agree Lampley is a terrible homer company man. Ward is the only guy there worth a damn along with RJJ.
i'd listen to a telecast with just roy and ward. they are very accurate. same with paulie. i can't believe i'm gonna say this...but i miss tarver too. he was good.
He did that with Donaire. When Donaire got schooled he kept complaining about how Rigo wasnt being a prize fighter, and blah blah blah.
I remember being turned off as a viewer by that. He refused to give Rigo props, just kept saying he was running and ducking and jogging. Lampley and Merchant like that punch drunk no defense boxing. They think all boxing matches should be Rocky movies.
yeah..that whole gatti list bull****. smh. they need to donate money to mago. dude was in a coma...gave them what they wanted. they didn't contribute a single penny to this guy. they want to see that as what boxing is supposed to be. they don't have a ****ing clue. that's only going to lead to more brain damage and death. don't get me started on the rocky movies.
The entire HBO crew is a disgrace, complete utter disgrace to boxing. I can't even put the volume up because I'll be pissed through out the fight.
Health should always come first. Anyone who's suffered from something dealing with boxing will tell you that. Ali would tell you that. Mago, if functioning properly would tell you that. They mock boxers, when he says "my health comes first" and People say "They should trade blows, a real warrior would fight to the death" With all due respect, Thats absolutely ridiculous. This is sport, not a coliseum duel. Though it is a violent sport, the name of the game is still winning. Fighters have styles, just like any other athletes in sports. When fighters try to fight in ways that aren't in their best interest, for the purpose of pleasing fans, that's when they lose. These are human beings and this is a brutal sport. The man that can participate in this sport, make a ton of money and leave with his mental and physical faculties is the winner. Not the guy with slurred speech, pennies to his name and one who is holding on to nothing more than the respect from fans that say: "He fought in some wars, he was a real warrior." How many bills does that pay? What happens when you can't walk your daughter down the aisle in 15 years? They say: Real fighters are the ones "who impacted the world and took the chances to fight everyone and risk it all for the fans." Risk it all for the fans for what? So somebody you never met in your life can regard you as great but you're still a shell of yourself in front of children and wife? Stumbling, slurring your speech, and walking around with a cane, only to be stopped in the street occasionally by fully capable human beings with all their faculties who say " Hey, way to go champ, you're a real warrior" Come on. don't ask another man to do something you wouldn't be willing to do yourself. This is a business as much as it is a sport. The art of the sport has always been to hit and not get hit. People were bad mouthing Alvarado when he decided not to come back out against Ruslan. As if the man doesnt have family to go home to, a mother to hug, sons to guide, daughters to protect. Boxing is a sport, and it's a job. This isn't a Rocky movie with fake blood, fake swellings. There is no one yelling "action" and "cut", there are no redos. They are taking these punches, to their faces. Every outing. That's why I dont like Rocky movies. It gave an unrealistic view to a lot of people of what boxing is supposed to be. Every punch that every fighter takes has a chance to seriously injure them. So we have to grateful for the sport we have and are able to watch. I love a good fight like everyone else, but no one deserves to be disabled or battered over this stuff. Theres nothing cool about taking damage, whether its Pacquiao getting knocked out, Ali with Parkinsons, Sugar Ray with a detached retina, or Magomed Abdusalamov in a coma. These guys put their lives on the line to entertain. Accept them for what they are and keep your opinions to yourself. Because you and I both know damn well. NO ONE here, or any of those bloggers, or vloggers can/ or would be willing to take those punches. These dudes have to live on 30-40 years after their careers end. Life doesnt stop after boxing, and it shouldn't stop during either. Health should always come first. It's always the most important thing. That's why I hate when Lampley and other people complain about "safety first" boxers. It gets under my skin. If you're gonna appreciate the sport, appreciate all sides of it, not just the one you favor.
