" I will persist until I succeed, always will I take another step. If that is of no avail, I will take another, and yet another. In truth, one step at a time is not too difficult... I know that small attempts, repeated, will complete any undertaking..." That's why I love Boxing...:deal
Boxing saved me. I was going very much down the wrong path, drinking heavily, drugs, streetfights etc... Long story short, once i got back to boxing after a 5 year hiatus and yet another trip to court that resulted in a final ultimatum, 240hrs community service, next time jail, it changed my life. Gave me a purpose again. Stopped drinking (until after bouts:yep) trained hard, gathered a new respect for other people that has seen me transform into a really nice geezer from an orrible cant. Now its my job, i teach boxing for a living and the sport i love is now helping many others like me to get their **** together. :good
cheers geezer, it truly is the sport of kings, best ****ing thing on the planet, without my boxing, not sure i would have much to live for:deal
Where probably one of the last generations of fans, who will be this passionate about the sport..........
I disagree. My amateur club have just sold 300 tickets in three days for our show on the 22nd of this month, I get more students than i can handle most nights, the junior section is overflowing with kids wanting to be the next Mayweather or Hatton or Pacman and they all watch the fights. I think boxing in this country is massive, bigger than we all think, i can seriuously see a return to the Benn/Watson/Eubank/Bruno days with some of the talent we have, all we need is a terrestrial TV provider to see the potential and we take our place as one of the most watched sports in the UK:good
I don't mate. It just dose'nt get the exsposure it used to........... Boxing used to be ingrainned into street culture, but it's slowly being over taken by MMA. People are not as educated anymore about our sport. People need to stop ignoring this.
I wish more of the posters here would have that attitude. The personalities involved, boxing is full of characters. Also the anticipation of a big fight, and finally seeing the ring clear and the two fighters left waiting for the bell- there's nothing like it. When football became a business and I finally saw it for what it really was it, the sport was never the same for me. A football team changes from season to season, in boxing you know the same guy will be fighting for years
Shameless bump. A lot of new posters on here now, and after hearing that Twat Mark Wright try to belittle our sport, I thought of this thread. :good
I would say - I have some love for the sport - its certainly something that has been deeply ingrained into my blood since I was a young lad. But I cant claim to love it fully with all my heart - as I don't love it enough to put myself on the line and actually fight and take real punches to head and body - in real fights. I have love for it - but I love myself more and never really fancied taking the constant abuse that is part of being a boxer. I dont think anyone can really claim to love the sport fully - unless they put themselves on the line in the ring and give it everything in a real fight. I dont just love boxing fights - I love the culture around it too - the sweaty gyms - the roadwork - the people - the skills - the training drills - the press conferences - the hype and media - and atomosphere on fight night. Boxing is a way of life.
