I would say - I use to love boxing more when I was younger - I didnt seem to care so much back then - I sparred alot - got into some gym wars - and took some big punches.

I use to spar with my oldest brother too - at home - and we would only use light bag mitts - so it was almost bare knuckle fighting. :scaredas:

But doing it as a full grown man - would be a more serious business I think - and alot more chance of causing or receiving damage.

:?:huh:huhi thought you were an alt who only posted about THAT fight and the situation surrounding it.

Agree with your points which is why ive started training seriously and am hoping to get a few AM fights under my belt before i finish uni. Anything to help me understand/appreciate this sport more.

Nah I never sparred with him.

    Well - not properly.

He came over my garage before - when I was training - and I told him to stick some mitts on - and we done some body sparring - where he could punch me but not in the head - and I would just use my defense and not hit him back.

I would have only allowed full head punching - if it was a proper spar - but I reckon I would have wasted him - :yep - so it better for him to stay in one piece - he never really boxed at all so I reckon I would have bashed him up - although the stupid **** when we were around our late teens - spent a good few hundred or even thousand quid - building a big gym at the bottom of his parents garden - and he fitted it out with training equipment - but he never had that real motivation and never used it. :patsch and when his career took off - he left home for his own swanky place and left the home gym vacant. :-(

I don't know about you, but i got abit emotional and punched the air at the end of this video. I am 25 years of age, and i think i am from one of the last generations that looked up to boxers. I am part of one of the last generations, to experience what the Heavyweight Champion of the world stood for. When i was growing up as a child, everybody knew who the Heavyweight Champion of the world was, boxing was still culture.

Boxing is no longer a culture it is now just a sport. And there is no way back for boxing, i don't think it will ever truly die out but it will never reach the political and social heights of the past.

I think Rocky and Sylvester Stallone being inducted into the hall of frame is a monumental and pivotal moment in boxing history. Its marks the complete end of the sport being a culture, within society.

I love boxing, for the things Stallone says in this video. For me its does not all come down to what happens inside of the ring, its what happens outside of the ring. The ethics, the principles of what these fighters go through outside of the ring, due to the harsh nature of their sport. And i think everyday people can relate to these struggles within their own lives. Boxers are the most highly criticised and unfairly judge men on the planet.

If you talk too much, and don't say the right things.

"You are now arrogant, a bad person"

If you're brave enough to let people know what you're dreams and biggest ambitions are........"You put it all on the line".........and you for whatever reason, don't achieve it all, to the standard of what people think you should.

    "You're now a failure, a fraud, a embarrassment, a loser, a coward"

You can lose in Tennis, Lose a football match, lose a race in Athletics. And still have all the respect in the world, people will not hold it against you.

    In boxing, when you lose.

You can lose respect, You can lose you're image, they will sometimes try and strip you of you're dignity, you're pride.

And people here are all guilty of that.

So all in all, i have the upmost respect for fighters. Even the guys you think have had it easy, have had hard. And then i have even more respect for fighters, that keep on moving.

That are standing for something, that people in general have lost. Standing for something that people don't want to talk about. Because people are afraid, and don't want to sound to different.

    Courage, Hope, and dreams.

Guys like Audley Harrison, everything i have said in this thread happened to him. Its the man i support before the fighter, and ethics of a man. He may never be world champion, but throughout his whole career.

"He has stood for those three things, and nobody here can deny that"

And in life, if you can stand for those things. Just like Rocky said! You may not ever be a Champion inside of the ring, but you will be a Champion of you're own life, and somebody weather its you're children or fans will still look upto you as a champion.

"Because you stood fought for something, that people be-leaved in and that people care about"

There are not many boxers out there these days, that stand for anything. Its all about money, and they are afraid of losing, and they have nothing of anything inspirational to say.......

"I've never fought amateur or pro, but i still sometimes find myself listening to Rocky. But i still sometimes find myself, shadow boxing before i go on a run. Before i train in whatever my specific area. Because life is a fight, and if it wants a fight................"Its ****ing got one"........

    Its ****ing got one!!!
