Bute doesn't like to throw caution to the wind. He has not really pushed the boat out against Mock and Tatevosyan, when he could have. Now, that he is so close to realising his dream, he will not go crazy, particularly not against puncher Berrio. He would much rather outbox Berrio from the outside for a very wide UD. Berrio sure can punch though! To win, he could either wait for Bute to get overconfident (not likely) and then hammer him, for Bute to make a mistake (bound to happen) and then hammer him or, to go for it and apply pressure from the beginning, (possible) and then hammer him. If Berrio goes for it, he might open himself up to a Bute counterpunch and get KDed himself. Berrio does not have a good chin. Even if he doesn't go down, he might get TKOed by Bute, if he goes for it and gets tagged. Of course, Berrio might get tagged and might sway, and as Bute goes for the TKO, Berrio might deck Bute! Would Bute get up from the canvas? I think he would do his best to get up. He really wants this; he has been dreaming of nothing else and he is hungry! As hungry as Pavlik! Eventually, being outscored on the cards, Berrio will have to take a chance and go for it. This will be his downfall! All in all, I see Bute tagging Berrio with a counter and then TKOing him. But, who will lead in this fight? Berrio or Bute? I think Bute will draw him in for an attack to counterpunch him, while using his jab to poke him for the rest of the time. berrio is a C-level fighter with no chin. he got lucky knocking out unkown stigliz.......big deal. this is just a paper belt he is holding. champs are other people. so bute winning is not a big deal.
The winner of this fight is still only number 4 at Super Middleweight IMO. Still great stepping stone for Bute. Should Bute win i would chase a match with one-eyed Anthony Mundine. But i doubt Mundine would tackle such a hard opponent. He can just stick to fighting Argentine taxi drivers for a few more years.
I think beating Bika and Berrio at this stage of his career (21 fights) would be a big deal. Bute's career progress is very good!
Bute's fights against Bika and Berrio will have been against better opposition than that of anyone else's in their last two fights, except Mikkel. This is encouraging for Bute fans. If you take the last three fights into consideration, only Mikkel and Joe will have fought better opposition....not bad!
Yes, Mundine's comp is not that great. Especially considering Bika has defeated Soliman in the contender already. But he wouldn't have the 'best comp' lately, just the two best recent wins in the SMW division if he does indeed win the belt over Berrio.
Let's hope Bute keeps up the good work and keeps going for good opposition. If he wins against Berrio, he should be able to step into the ring against another good, live, opponent next time! This would be good for boxing and great for us, fans.
Just watched the Berrio fight. Two things - Bute gets Berrio in 4 or so if he committs to his shots. Stieglitz is not that bad, better than I thought, shame he got caught there as he'd be a better test for Bute as a more skilled boxer.
Everyone agrees that Stieglitz would have been a better test for Bute. But Berrio can hit! Bute has not been in with a real puncher before - Berrio is more dangerous to Bute than Stieglitz in my oppinion because Bute could probably handle Stieglitz, whereas a big punch out of the blue might be harder to handle. Yes...I am assuming that Bute will go into the ring with some intent too. If he just looks to catch Berrio out, but win on points, he might only TKO him in the late rounds. Bute will not want to do anything foolish, but he shouldn't be afraid of Berrio either. He needs to show Berrio that.
Berrio has some pop, it won't be a walk in the park, unless Bute just unloads and tests them shaky whiskers of Berrio.
He's probably the hardest hitter in the division, true KO power and you can say that with confidence considering he's using mostly poor technique to drop these guys like Mack and Stieglitz who don't have a history of chin problems, you know? But we have to go back to poor defence and poor technique. Stieglitz doesn't hit nearly as hard as Bute does and he's not as quick, nor is he as accurate. This is why I think it will be a walk in the park, save for Bute getting clipped by a perfect shot.
This is a bad assesment in my opinion. - Yes Berrio was knocked out in the past but in last couple of fights he took bombs from pretty decent punchers without getting hurt. He took Mack's best shots and totally outclassed him. Same Mack that sent the iron chin Andrade on his ass. - Berrio is maybe a C-level fighter in terms of skills but overall he is not a C-level fighter. A C-level fighter would not have wins over Vanderpool, Mack and Stieglitz all in the last 2 years. That's a better resume then Bute, Mundine, Froch, Lacy, Inkin, Braehmer, Manfredo, Andrade, Green, Pascal, etc.... - Who cares if he was knocked out by bums early in his career. It happens. Just ask Pacquiao. Fact is in term of recent achivements. He is definatly top5 at 168lbs.
If it is to be, then better now, then against, say, Froch, in a year or two...I don't want Bute to be KD'ed...but if he is, then this would be a good time to see whether he would get up or not, and how he would fare, because he will be thinking it could happen, and he must be steeling his resolve against such an eventuality.
