Why I think Clottey "SHOULD" be able to beat Pacquiao!

Here's why I think Clottey "SHOULD" be able to beat pacquiao.

Now the general idea for the outcome of this fight is that pacquiao will just outwork clottey to a fairly wide ud because clottey will just sit in his shell for 12 rounds. Which is the likely outcome but I personally don't believe it should happen like that.

In my view Clottey has a big advantage over Pacquiao which is his defensive style. The fact that he is the much bigger man and fights in the shell defense will allow clottey to walk pacquiao down and counter punch him. Now granted that Pacquiao is blazing right now, the fact that Clottey is so much bigger than Pacquiao and his defense is more or less impenetrable basically allows him to walk in straight lines to combat pacquiao.

This works to clotteys advantage because most fighters who leave themselves vulnerable to Pacquiao is when they are chasing him down @ an angle, or when they sit in the pocket for too long. Both of these problems should not exist for Clottey because of his defensive style and size. Two other things Clottey can do well to bother pacquiao is counter punch and fight going backwards. If Clottey just walks pacquiao down using a jab and be second to strike after a combination I don't see any other way that this fight can be very rough outing for pacquiao.

Even if Pacquiao decides to go to clottey's body, that means he will have to be inside where Clottey also likes to fight. If Clottey plays his cards right I definitely think he can make this a very rough outing for Pacquiao. Since the fight is in dallas & between two arum fighters, I personally think clottey would have to basically do everything but kill Pacquiao to win. But I do expect a fight that is extremely rough and tumble and pacquiao gets beat up but still wins the fight.

At the end of the day I don't think Clottey is intelligent to win this fight. He always gets to self absorbed in proving that his opponent did not lay a finger on him and he believe he will win a fight because of that. When in reality fights work within a time frame.

    Share your thoughts.

    If you dare...

I agree with most of what you say. Pac is favorite, but Clottey might surprise us all.. Indeed, he is the first defensively minded fighter Pac fights since JMM, but he's a good 30 lbs bigger than the Mexican warrior. Plus, he hardly had an easy time against him. Of course, he's not as good as JMM in a pound for pound sense, but his tremendous physical strength, tight defence and strong beard is a handful for any welterweight, let alone a former feather. When Joshua fought Cotto, i thought he looked to be in control and the more threatening fighter throughout most of the bout. He walked over Judah like he was nothing.

On the other hand, Clottey's workrate is somewhat low and in certain fight this made him prone to losing rounds, particularly late in the fight. We know that Pacquiao's stamina is extraordinary. I think he averaged over 80 punches a round against Diaz, despite Diaz applying plenty of pressure.

I think no one will get knocked down during this fight, but it could be a hard struggle for both nonetheless.

  3. **** all that, I went and watched some Clottey film last night, and I know that he is definitely gonna get dusted the **** off by Punkiao.

he isn't smart enough.. he won't let his hands go ENOUGH to win. I still expect him to make it a very rough outing for pacquiao but pacquiao will get the benefit of the doubt

Which fight did you watch? Don't you think he's got good defensive skills and a strong beard? Plus, you gotta remember he's fighting a guy smaller than himself, so his physical strength will be far above that of his opponent, Pac.

I'm sorry but that is the dumbest analysis I've ever heard.

You are looking at it completely ass-backwards. Pacquaio has the ability to move laterally at a very fast rate, he can attack from different angles very effectively. This means the opponent facing him has to be able to defend and attack from different angles and move laterally as well.

If Clottey thinks he can walk in a straight line with his guard up and push Pacman back into the ropes he is out of his ****ing mind. I think Clottey will have success in this fight too! But it won't be from attacking in a straight line because Pacquaio will simply step to the side and circle constantly. Pacs footspeed is 2 x's what Clottey's is.

He will just stand there with his static guard, no head movement, trying to over power Pacquiao at times.

What we will see in this fight is Pacquiao flurry and move away, come back in show Clottey some more angles he didn't know about, then move back out. From round 5 onwards Pacquiao will start to dominate and mock Clottey.

  9. I watched the margarito, Zab, Corrales, and Cotto fights. Clottey's big ass jughead can take some punishment but he is not active, accurate, or pressing enough to give it to pac. Plus, pac is still on "Da Shyt" and he gonna be a monster.

  10. Also, his defense is pretty decent but its just solid defense, not slick defense. slick defense would allow him to set pac up, but it ain't happenin. But who knows, I may be eating these mu****in words in a few weeks.

the fact that pacquiao can move laterally does not matter.

Clottey can just walk him down if pacquiao wants to score he will have no choice to stand infront of clottey. Clottey doesnt have to chase pacquiao down because of his defense.

I see it being a close, relatively tough to judge fight. But I do think Clottey needs a knockdown or two to win. But even if that happens I see the ref taking a point away from Clottey for something stupid and then Pacquiao winning a controversial split decision. Basically, the fix is in. Clottey to get screwed again.

I'm not trying to flame or embarrass you, but if you were serious with this post, then you are 100% wrong. And have alot to learn dude. See Hopkins vs Pavlik for the most recent crash course in how lateral movement and angles KILLS a straight line fighter.

Clottey is not gonna surprise anybody for Crissake! He deserves a fight like this b'cause he is a warrior but his defensive shell is only gonna put him in trouble. Mothaf is gonna move and keep on holding up his defense and Pac keeps on nailing him from all angles, everything will be hit, arms, shoulders, head, face, gloves... God, there's no contest in here!
