Why do you think Taylor was better than Joppy, Holmes, Trinidad etc? Who did Taylor ever beat besides an old Hopkins?

Canelo and Jacobs might be better than Holmes, but Lemieux? Doubtful. And make no mistake about it, Lemieux is pobably the best fighter Golvkin clearly has beaten so far. Let that sink in. Lemieux.

Saunders, who easily beat Lemieux, has never been ranked better than nr 3 at MW. So either we have an unusually strong era currently or Lemieux is just not that good.

What did I make up? In the first fight with Mercado, Hopkins was hurt and floored in two separate rounds! Facts.

Yes, Hopkins won the re-match. Okay, Mercado pretty much lost every fight he had after that and was Ko'd a total of 9 times. He wasn't very good HerolGee, and you know it.

I think most would agree, Jacobs was better than Holmes.

A question was asked, which natural middles did Hopkins beat at 160 pounds? Your reply to this question is?

Great opening post. Really well reasoned. I'm pretty much sold.

The quality of opponent conversation can always be steered in many directions according to ones bias and/or knowledge of certain eras. I'm not getting into it here.

I'd actually favor Jacobs in a rematch with Golovkin.
Golovkin/Canelo - Remains a pick 'em bout. But, if forced to bet, I back Golovkin to take it, this time.
Golovkin/Saunders - I don't know. I get the impression Saunders is made out to be more than he really is and I'd have to take a closer look to speculate either way.

Perhaps a better question is, which natural middleweight is Golovkin fighting next?

    Yikes.

First off Taylor beat Joppy, so you can take him out of your points. Taylor > Joppy, and yes he also beat Hopkins. That and wins over Spinks, places him over Holmes, wouldn't you agree?

Holmes was not that good. Trinidad a welter moving up, and Hopkins was dirty in this fight.

I never said Lemieux was great, but he can sure punch. Maybe Lemiuex was GGG's 5-7th best win.

Billy Joe Sanders in my opinion would out point Hopkins. If you take GGG out of the mix, I think Sanders is the best of the lot at 160 pounds, Its a pretty deep division right now. Derevyanchenko looks good can punch and is undefeated.

    Charlo and Andrade are undefeated.

Canelo was over 175 pounds in the last fight. After the Canleo re-match, I'd like to see GGG fight Saunders or Charlo.

Saunders in a large ring is not an easy fight for a guy 37 years old.

and in the 2nd one he proved it was altitude sickness and wrecked him. You are making shyt up about Hopkins being unable to beat Mercado, he was easily capable of doing so.

sadly for your case, most of them people are the ones in your head.

hes not a great resume there, I'm first to admit that, so theres no need for me to defend it. It is not me trying to prove someones resume is something great, its you.

The issue here is you are claiming GGGs is greater, when hes ostensibly got half the defences, and his best middleweight opponent is on par with one of Hopkins worst.

the question gotta be asked - you seriously think weight of opposition was an issue for a guy who went to LHW and won titles there?

Although you are right that taylor was elite briefly. you are looking at this wrong. Hopkins WASNT elite anymore, he was 40.

when 3G beats an elite in his forties you let me know I am wrong yeh I wont hold my breath.

Nah , Lemmie is GGGs second best win after Jacobs.

    Some perspective -

Kell Brook coming straight up from 147 done better against Golovkin than fully fledged and top 10 rated middle weights Macklin , Rubio and Geale.
He did a hell of a lot better against mandatory challenger Dom Wade. This tells you how weak the landscape Golovkin briefly ruled over was.

Once a decent challenger like Sergiy D came along , Golovkin dropped his belt so he could instead take a pitiful fight with a two year inactive 154 pounder.

I don't recall Hopkins ever ducking anybody. GGG had a chance to fight a lesser Jones Jr type opponent and he straight up refused.

Martinez was a fine fighter, but he didn't fancy the GGG fight as people know at that stage of his career

There you go, not one elite did he beat, people hating on GGG's resume and there's nothing in it between him and Hopkins..You don't always have to beat elite do you, consistency and longevity has to count too

Saunders seems to me like he can be really tricky stylistically. And he's improving whereas Golovkin is likely declining if anything.

I'm more or less with you on Jacobs and Canelo.

He has stupid amounts of amateur fights under his belt and is also a pressure fighter, you know that style ages faster don't you ? Bellew is not a comparison to make. GG is noticeably slower than 3/4 yrs ago, even haters cant ignore that

No, he didn't, but I still would have liked for them to have faced off before Martinez hurt his knee against Chavez.
