You see alot of fighters with good chins and I will use Froch for this example. Froch takes alot of punches on the chin and stays on his feet, but has been wobbled and hurt a few times. Dirrell hurt him at one point and his legs wobbled but he stayed up because he has heart. Taylor hit him in the temple and it put him down for the first time in his professional career, but after that he took even worse punches from Taylor on the chin and managed to stay up. The shots to the temple area are worse than chin shots. What I noticed in the Mayweather vs Mosley fight was that Floyd took that first shot from Mosley and his legs didn't wobble, yes they stiffened up a bit, but this is Mosley we are talking about. Floyd did what he had to, held on and kept his defence tight and was still mentally there. Just moments later in the same round he was hit by Mosley hard on the temple area and his legs buckled, but he didn't go down. Those punches would have put most fighters down and I think it's laughable when people say Floyd has a china chin. I think he has a good chin and heart and what he says on camera should be disregarded - too many people believe what he says and don't read between the lines. Just a few of my thoughts.
Of course his chin is good, no one can dispute that. Add a good chin to the best defence around and your looking at one bad mofo
Exactly, but you still get people saying he has a china chin. They use Grant gloves as an issue, but if you're hit that hard, it doesn't matter what gloves you're wearing, it's going to hurt you.
He has a good chin. I wouldn't call it granite but durable for sure. Mosley isn't a one punch knockout machine. He has always broken fighters down even in his prime. He basically has to get hands on you for a few rounds to get you. Pacquiao really isn't a one punch knockout machine either. It just so happens that he has the best chance to get hands on Floyd all night.
Very true. Pacquiao punching in volumes would trouble Floyd, along with the southpaw stance that has troubled him in the past.
I don't think anyone out there has seriously suggested Mayweather has a china chin. Those that have said this, are merely doing it with a hint of sarcasm, or to wind the fans up. It can be safely said, Mayweather has a pretty good chin.
At least he proved that he can take a shot and that he knows how to act when hes hurt so as long as dont get KTFO´d by one punch we´ll never know. If Mosley had cleto reyes no one would have called Floyd a pretty boy anymore after the fight. :deal Gloves like that boosts the effect of every punch.
Anybody claiming Floyd has a shaky chin is an idiot. Obviously Floyd's chin is above average at the very least.
I gotta respect his chin he did exactly what nasiim said. Floyd got punched in the month n he turned into a dragon n started throwing fire balls but shane for some odd reason didn't step on his tail lol im a fan of Mosely n ill admit this happened
Okay. to play devil's advocate, why is it that the few times that he's been hit flush, he's been buzzed?
I for one detest floyds on screen arrogance and was hoping Mosley KO'd him.In future I am not going to listen to him and just enjoy him box because nobody can deny he is one of the greats. floyd held on well in the second round but I was dissapointed that Mosley did not capitalise.
his chin is ok at most. as everybody is making the Margarito fight as an example how Shane looked excellent just a year ago ... Shane put a carpet-bombardment on Margarito's chin with right hands and left hooks for 8 rounds until he buckled and Floyd gets stunned by one right hand and almost knocked out senseless by the other???? be real. I thought his chin was better than that. so if Floyd has a good chin, Margaritos chin is URANIUM or nuclear proof. people should know there are three factors in taking a punch ... 1. chin its self upon immediate impact 2. recovery time (meaning how long does it take you to recover after being staggered) 3. heart and conditioning (is what keeps you up even if your chin is not that great) so ... Floyd has a shitty chin upon impact, very good recovery time since was already in the fight by the end of the round plus a big heart and extremely well conditioning.
Ok?...I'd say his chin was a lot better than ok. I've seen him take some very good punches, but the second right hand shot he took on the temple was easily the hardest he has had to take. That shot would have dropped most Welterweights, if not all the Welterweights about today. Watch it back and look how Mayweather doesn't see the punch (the punches you don't see...), and the fact that he caught it on the temple is even more impressive in how he stayed on his feet. Everyone reacts differently to punches from different people...not everyone punches the same. A recognised puncher may not be able to hurt a certain boxer at all over 12 rounds...yet a boxer who is not known for being a puncher may be able to hurt, if not stop the same boxer. I've seen it happen before. It's ok looking back at a boxers bouts and pointing out were he was wobbled, and jumping to the conclusion he has an 'ok' chin...but he has taken harder punches in my opinion than from the shots that actually wobbled him, except the Mosley shot.
