Why I thought Broner had Floyd like skills, but I was wrong

Yeah it's pretty crazy to think that a. 36 year old Mayweather moves better around the ring than the 23 year old Broner. I honestly don't understand how someone who prides themselves on being the next Mayweather overlooked the fact that one of Mayweather's most important defensive aspects is his ability to move in addition to all of the defensive techniques he uses when standing in the pocket. It's like Broner made his own version of Mayweather, a version that stands still and try's to avoid every punch by leaning over or grabbing his opponent.

 

Broner doesn't have Floyd skill, if he did he wouldn't have made the mistake of fighting Maidana. He would have said my health come first when asked to fight Maidana.

 

Broner has the talent to be successful with a style like Floyd's. But, he does not have the knowledge of his craft to do so. And his ego is/was too big for him to see it. Floyd uses his entire body to avoid punches. He ducks, slips, shuffles, parries, shoulder rolls, moves his head, etc. He sets traps to get an opponent to pull the trigger and counters beautifully. If he has to lead the chase, he can fight off the back foot, and uses a sharp jab or a straight right to keep the pursuant at bay. And so on...

Broner does not use his legs enough...looks way too flat footed in there. Seems way too in love with his power. At this stage of his career he just simply met his match. Bad move to jump up to WW that soon. I didn't expect last night's result, but, I did know that Maidana @ WW would be a huge step up for him. He should have just moved up to 140 and tried to clean that out...if the goal was to have any type of longevity. I was rooting for the kid, but, this loss was good for him and frankly good for boxing.

It was evident he was fairly **** following his defeats to Quintero, De Leon and Paulie.

 

It was plain to see.

as you have seen his shoulder roll does not work with volume punching (Malinagi and Maidana proved this)

He doesn't move around the ring, he is flat footed and balance isnt that great ( i think both Knockdowns were more due to being off balanced than being really hurt and rocked)

He has a much lesser punch selection... Straight, Jab, Hook, but all pretty much the same. Mayweathher has so many variations of the same punch its not funny.

He clearly doesnt have to work ethic. Seeing him in between fights shows this.

He has no inside game

And the most important.... He does NOT out think his opponent, and is a pattern, not an adaptive fighter. As much as people think he is an adaptive fighter, he pretty much has two or 3 modes and thats it. He had no answer to Maidana, and at times was being OUTBOXED, yes OUTBOXED by the crude Maidana.


And this is not in hindsight. The Mallinagi fight told me all i needed to know.

If i was his handlers i would never of moved him up 2 weight classes to face Maidana. Hes still an infant in boxing terms.

 

floyd just the better cherry picker, better managed his career.

 

Just to add to this.

I still expected Broner to win last night as regardless of what i just said.

You also cant say he is a bad boxer.

Its just near impossible to compare Mayweather to him.

Mayweather is a one in a million fighter.

Worse than overhyping Broner is dumping him when he runs into a little adversity. Like a lot of people have said before, you don't know who your friends are until you lose.

 

Well people are too stupid to see that Floyd fought alot more offensivly in the fights from Marquez to Cotto.

Mayweather clearly made the fight against Cotto to go against the ropes and that's why Cotto got in a few shots. When Mayweather decided to go on the outside he won all the rounds.
