"Lou DiBella, who co-promotes Mijares with Mexico's Nacho Huizar, and Darchinyan promoter Gary Shaw said they have an outline of a deal for their fighters to meet. However, the television schedule is jammed in the fall. HBO isn't interested in the fight. Showtime has interest and may be able to find a date for the bout in November, DiBella said."

Mijares is one of the most talented fighters in the game and has an exciting style. Vic is an exciting fighter as well. This fight would unify 3 belts, would surely be a good fight, and could help establish a new star in the sport. Sadly, HBO is not interested. All HBO seems to be interested in is trotting out "name" fighters, and being a booking agent for GBP. Meanwhile, Showtime seems to have put more emphasis on broadcasting quality, compelling fights. Step your game up HBO. What happened to "building legends one round at a time". Not anymore I see.:verysad

HBO's schedule is full for the rest of 2008.

    Atleast you Americans get HBO.

Us Brits have a channel called Setanta Sports that advertises itself as the home of Boxing and it isn't showing Diaz vs Katsidis or Marquez vs Casamayor. :patsch

I see you're point though, Boxing doesn't get enough coverage on mainstream television anymore on the whole.

HBO isn't interested at all. Showtime has a full schedule, but wants the fight in early 2009.

Vic Nochinyan is essentially a Showtime fighter. Why would HBO be interested and have to deal with that idiot Gary Shaw?

They have no problem putting Lacy on their network. And there is no such thing as a Showtime fighter. They don't do exclusive deals anymore.

that is why I said essentially I know Showtime does not give contracts. The only other place I have seen Nochinyan was on the Versus network once the rest have been on Showtime.

HBO doesn't care about their regular subscribers anymore so they just use the cable boxing shows to promote their over priced pay per views.

I'm just upset with Max Kellerman slowly phasing in for Larry Merchant. I don't agree with that move. Harvey Keitel or Mike Tyson would be much better choices for the job.

I hear ya they only seem interested in old faded stars. I guess this will be a independent PPV only fight.:-(

I would like to see a co-main event with Mijares - Darchinyan and Wladimir Klitschko - Povetkin ... but this dream will never come true.. would be a great event though :happy
