Yea Porter seemed pretty explosive and overly aggressive most of the times, like a watered down version of Mosley. Diaz was able to make him pay for his mistakes in the first fight and Alexander was getting beat to the punch couldn't handle Porters aggression. Maidana was barely learning how to jab with Garcia and wasn't even really trying to pressure Alexander he was trying to outbox a boxer which was a bad idea, slow as ****, not long before that he got smacked around by el zombie Morales too. Now tho, Maidana has combined both elements, you going to tell me he gave the best boxer in the world a helluva almost beating him, now he's going to lose to 2nd, 3rd tier boxers like Alexander. Gtfo with that doo doo!

 

This is said after the event and I doubt you would have done a thread saying im shocked Brook lost.
I wasnt shocked, I did a prediction thread, predicting Brook.
Here is some of the thread details below

Porter is an undefeated world champ. Look at who Porter has fought and beaten.
Alexander who was exposed when fighting at European level against Kotelnik
Malignaggi who when thrown in deep at European level was stopped.

Now Porter will be thrown in at European level, which will seem deeper waters than he has had to swim in before.

If Brook boxes in the slick European style, It will be a long night for Porter and the title changing hands.

Brook is also undefeated, has boxed at the top European level and we saw his level, when he destroyed Malignaggis biggest win in 4 rounds.

I pick Brook to turn up the heat and against the odds, pull off the upset, which will only be an upset to casual fans, and win with ease.
Dont be shocked if Brook scores a sensational stoppage

corpsejr is never that good, only carefully matched.

no atg in his prime at the right weight class in his resume.

no williams, martinez, margo, younger mosley, younger dela hoya, even younger cotto.

since unretirement, steady diet of bums and washedups, if not bloated and handicapped.


he outconditions his opponents as much as he outboxes them.

he shells up when is attacked, so against someone who can attack for 12 rounds, like a castillo, he was lost.

put williams, margo, pac, martinez, all with excellent stamina, younger dela hoya, maybe a roided mosley, younger undefeated cotto is ,aybe 50/50.

 

You make some valid points but you make the mistake to take Garcia out of the equation. Maidana footwork, balance and jab improved a lot under Garcia's guidance.

 

A trainer can only make marginal improvements and give the proper gameplans. It can't make the fighter 100% better. Maybe 20%-50% better by refining their techniques, but it's really up to the fighter.

Maidana has displayed the qualities you've mentioned way before Garcia started training him. Look at the Khan fight. His jab was good and his footwork was good.

When he fought Lopez and Karass, nobody was too impressed with him. In fact, he got hurt pretty bad against Lopez.

He looked good against Broner because of styles. Broner doesn't throw anything when the other fighter is throwing, making it easy for Maidana to overwhelm him. Floyd has a similar style. He run to the ropes and cover up, instead of countering. Floyd allowed himself to get taken advantage of.

With or without Garcia, Maidana still loses to Alexander by wide UD.

 

Styles make fights he is a great champion hopefully he learns from this, adjusts, and grows.
