the challenge was given following the Hearns fight in the post fight conference, disingenuous one why go thru the trouble of giving me a run down of his career before the challenge? and that is NOT a retirement, SUCKER! you believe everything you read?
You didn't prove anything the moronlocks you proved I made a mistake and confused a few details......but not in a million years did you do anything beyond meat gazing in showers and sniff jockstraps of your favorite fighters you stalk everyone here has read your stupidity and if they know this sport they know how ignorant you are. A few things shows you could never survive the boxing business you don't understand business, you don't understand fighters, you are too naive to recognize corruption, anyone who knows how to box looks at Aaron Pryor and says what?? he was champion? his chin in the air his competition weak and he was knocked down by average fighters albight 140lb challengers far too often, he used drugs as an advantage throughout his career, he hit fighters clean without reaction he wore them down, you think SRL feared him?????, You think Duran feared him another ??????
Sure you can. Especially, if you announce the duck to a crowded hall of people at your first retirement party.
He looked right at Hagler at his retirement party and said "Unfortunately, it will never happen.." Hagler was the fight the public wanted in 1982 before Leonard retired. I think the eye concern was legitimate and that Leonard didn't really duck Hagler. But, I can see some arguing that he did duck him.
Yes, Mr. conspiracy theorist, he did retire in 1982. Oh, right, I forgot...it was all a ruse to avoid Aaron Pryor. LOLLLLLLL.
that's not the question. I asked why he turned down Pryor why turn down Pryor, then go looking for a fight with Lalonde who is not even seeking a match with Leonard with Lalonde making several million and Pryor offered 500K? why dont you guys simply admit you've been wrong all this time, and save all the lies and coverups/excuses?
No, a champion can duck his challengers. You don't duck a champion in a division you're not competing in. That's utter nonsense. I take no poster seriously who makes this ludicrous claim.
Can people pleeeeeeease stop this. You don't duck anyone two divisions above you. A champion has a duty to defend his title against the best challengers in his division, yes, otherwise you're not a real champion. But there's absolute NO ****ING duty to go up two divisions. If there was, Hagler ducked Spinks. This talk needs to stop. It such a ****ing idiocy that I can hardly breathe talking about it. But, yes, the press conference was a dick move.
You are all over the map .. Lalonde was in '88, Pryor early 80s . He made I believe 1.5 mil for AA 1, half went to Buddy .. He wasn't going to get the big money for Ray, moving up and nor should he. Per Pryor, he turned down Ray the first time 500k .. The fight came back and I believe it was signed for Pryor to make 750,000, eye injury fight gone. Pryor after his first pro fight switched to Buddy Larosa. Pryor didn't have any money, didn't know what he was doing, and he trusted Buddy. Well Buddy got Pryor to sign a contract for a 50/50 purse split for life. I think if you knew the dynamics of the very tough and unfortunate Pryor situation contract wise, it would make more sense to you.. Pryor wanted out of his contract and wanted more money.. Ray was offering, but Pryor was holding out. Ray did not duck Pryor. Imo, Pryor had nothing to lose, and everything to gain to get an opportunity to fight Ray. If he wins, he is the man. If he loses, no big deal, he was supposed to. Pryor had his opportunity early on and he passed on it. I believe there was that window for it to happen, Ray fought Finch in '82 and Howard in '84
This is what the boxing career for Pryor was like. To give you an idea of his situation. He went through the same with a Duran fight. Duran was already fighting at 147, and beat Leonard, before Pryor held a title at 140. Later on, Duran-Pryor fight was proposed at a catchweight of 150, (the weight is according to the Duran biography). [Link View Has Been Removed. But Theresa got to Pryor first and shot him in the midst of a quarrel. The bullet, a .22, went through his right forearm, grazed his chest and wound up in his coat pocket. Later, Theresa said she had shot him because she loved him, and they later reconciled. Pryor told LaRosa that the incident was LaRosa's fault, because he tried to mediate their domestic problems. By now Wells Fargo had caught up with Smith, and the Mamby fight was canceled. The next thing LaRosa heard, while watching the television news, was that Pryor had fired him. Pryor had also replaced his attorney of the moment. "Aaron, what are you doing?" LaRosa asked. "I've got a contract for you to fight Roberto Duran for $750,000." "No, I don't want to fight him. My new attorney told me not to sign anything until you and I work out a new contract." So much for the firing of LaRosa. By the time they worked out a new agreement, the chance to fight Duran—and the $750,000 payday—was gone. The new contract covered six years; LaRosa's share was cut to one-third and he no longer had any ancillary rights. Expenses were to come off the top. "The ink wasn't even dry on the damn contract," says LaRosa, "when I found out Aaron had signed a one-year promotional contract with Don King, who was going to give him a $100,000 bonus. Then King sent me the contract to sign. I told Aaron it was a mistake, but if that was what he wanted, then I'd sign. "Aaron said, 'But King is going to get me a Duran fight, a Mamby fight, because he's got Duran and Mamby.' " 'Aaron,' I said, 'we had a Duran fight, but you didn't want it.' "
