Why is Alexander Povetkin so highly regarded by the folks on this forum?

For one he is a steroid cheat...but ive never been all that impressed with him to begin with...
His best wins were against Eddie Chambers like 15 years ago, and a nice KO over washed up punching bag Hasim Rahman...
But I also thought he failed to make the most of his HW title shots, showing next to nothing against Klitschko and then going out and getting decapitated by AJ who has since proven to be soft as tissue paper..
For some reason, so-called knowledgeable fans on this forum have always held him in high regard and I've never understood why exactly

It must be the Olympic gold medal, the fact he fights bigger guys than himself and being Russian which automatically makes him badass in some people's eyes.

He's been a good heavyweight, Olympic champion. He never abused steroids.

He lost to klitschko and then went on the rampage knocking out or beating these highly rated fighters at the time

    Charr
    Takam
    Perez
    Wach
    Duhaupas
    Rudenko
    Hammer

    That’s some run of wins

It might be a run of wins but lets be honest here, that is a list rubbish fighters. Not only that but a list of rubbish fighters in a very weak and shallow era of heavyweight boxing.

The guy has a very good resume, pre and post Klitschko fight, has been in the Ring top10 for a over a decade with no less than 8 consecutive years as the #2.

If you're going to hold the doping thing against him, then you can't rate Fury (caught for worse things as Ostarine) either, and you're opening up a big can of worms for rating legends from the past (RJJ, Toney, Holyfield etc) in that case.

Because he was easily the best fighter outside of the Klitschkos for nearly a decade. Threw great combinations, excellent killer instinct. Not rocket science.

Olympic gold medal.Past belt holder. 34-2 (24) record. Great power. Beat some good names in impressive style. Best non-Klitschko heavyweight for a decade. Only lost to the dominant champions and Wlad should have been disqualified for all the holding he did.
