Why is Alexander Povetkin so highly regarded by the folks on this forum?

Povetkin has had more drug tests done on him than any of the previous fighters in the 90’s and 80’s, because drug testing was virtually non existent then.

 

Because of how viciously he jumps in with that left hook

 

Because he is a good fighter.

 

That’s a carefully crafted list of opponents. Perez was the only top ten guy of the bunch at the time of the fight.

 

Kind of get the ops point. In my eyes povetkin is superb in terms of technique and has a very good chin but his own arrogance and lazy work ethic were always his downfall. He came in so underprepared against huck that it was embarrassing.

 

It's not so hard to see that he's quite a good fighter, tbh, with an amazing and unique left hook.

I would better wonder why you cant see that he is actually a very good fighter. Maybe boxing is not your sport, maybe it's curling, or snooker... You should give them a try.

 

Because he's a very good fighter with a deep resume and an exciting style who's been a solid staple of the heavyweight division for the past decade or more.

Tell that to Deonkey Wilder.

"I ain't fightin' Povetkin that's like a ... a guy getting into the ring wid a knife!" paraphrased, Wilder, after not fighting Povetkin for taking over the counter Meldonium, and then going on to fight Ortiz and Fury who (lol) have some actual peds history.

 

Povetkin looks more like a fridge than a knife.

Deonkey, of course, looks like a chopstick.

He popped dirty for some other stuff too when he was meant to fight Stiverne.

 

He is highly regarded as an amateur, because that is the truth and fact about him.

At pro level the truth and fact about him is that his best result is Huck, more a draw but nevertheless a solid world class opponent.
Trouble is after that it is all eurolevel and below wins. So he is not highly regarded as a pro, he is more a one world class win type guy.

A eurolevel man who managed to raise himself to world title CW class on one occasion.

 

Povetkin failed two separate Ped’s tests losing out on two chances to fight Wilder, the second being for the Stiverne eliminator. He’s obviously much worse than Fury and hasn’t looked better than Ortiz in years so you don’t have a foot to stand on.

 

pov failed the drug test, thereby losing his chance to fight wilder, who has clearly accepted him.
