I would like to hear everyones reasoning. I agree that both of them are less than desirable opponents but you also have to be realistic at the same time.

1 - floyd isn't fighting any fighter that has spent most of their career at 154 or higher.

2 - floyd isn't fighting anyone that won't bring him a reasonable amount of money.

3 - Bob Arum won't do business outside of his promotional group unless he gets to control the event.

4 - Floyd isn't fighting anyone that has not headlined their own PPV or atleast head lined a major fight

these are 4 facts that we know with out a doubt so why so much criticism about khan or maidana?

Sugar Ray Leonard fought Larry Bonds & Ayub Karule after beating duran but before fighting thomas hearns

ODLH fought Oba Carr between Quartay & Trinidad and Derrel Correl between Trinidad & mosley

The only point I'm trying to make is every fight can't be a top notch opponent unfortunately for us, simple fact is the 147 pound division isn't even that competitive at the moment for it to be this way. I think Danny Garcia will be willing to challenge floyd but I think he's going to wait till floyds last two fights to try to make the fight. Besides him until pacquiao or tim bradley come out of their contracts we won't get that. Those are pretty much the remaining fighters that are realistic options. GGG, Lara, or any one at 160 isn't realistic.

I'm shocked when I read people suggesting floyd should fight ggg... i mean are you kidding me? he is a middleweight fighter heading towards super middle weight.. what fun will it be to see ggg get weight drained to fight mayweather? doens't appeal to me at all...

manny pacquaio...is the only guy out there mayweatehr is yet to beat... but as you said as long as arum is in the picture it can never happen

the only other logical opponent is danny garcia, however he is schedule to fight someone else and it's bound to be a canelo/guerrero type showing....

conclusion- not many options out there for mayweather at the moment but for many it's manny pacquaio or the highway

Maidana has just won a 147 title, beat a hype job and Floyd's friend who was 8-1 favorite. Its not a bad fight in terms of 147 rankings and with a revenge angle. Its better than Ortiz or RG that is for sure.

Khan on the other hand is different. If it is Khan i'm having problems getting interested because all i can remember is him beating the non famous Carlos Molina in a borefest, going life and death with past his best Diaz at catchweight and before that getting splattered in a few rounds by Garcia. Khan has no momentum, no recent big wins to sell the fight and NO wins at 147.

You're forgetting forum law #4 and #5, Walk.

    4. If a fighter you dislike isn't doing anything contemptible, you have to find something that you can declare as "vice contemptible" and make it sound as though it victimises everyone.

    5. If a fighter you like is doing something contemptible, it is your duty to find a way to excuse it at least by comparing it to another fighter's former contemptibly or spin it into a good thing, if you're talented enough to do so.

agreed. Both fights aren't great and probably easy for floyd. I just want him to get this one over with and see what he figures out for his 4th fight of his last 6.

yeah well people just have to be realistic at some point.

Khan gets knocked out in the early rounds by lesser fighters at a lower weight class. Maidana is just too far below Mayweather in terms of skills. Neither has a chance to beat Floyd and fans shouldn't have to shell out 75 bucks to watch an uncompetitive fight. If Mayweather is only going to fight once or twice a year, always on pay per view, then he should fight the best there is at his current weight class which appears to be 154. He needs to either fight Lara, or one of the 160 lb champs.

nobody is making anyone order the PPV. Best way to speak woudl be not to order the fight and he is fighting the best at his weight class. Pac and Bradley he CANNOT fight. Maidana is probably the 3rd best option in all reality, or danny garcia but he's already said he doesn't want the fight at the moment.

Because Floyd is the P4P #1 fighter in the sport and has called himself the best ever repeatedly, yet seems to want to avoid all quasi-legitimate threats. You talk about SRL and Oscar taking soft touches at times, which is fair, but the problem there is they also fought A+ level legacy-making competition. Floyd has nobody at that level on his resume. Now I would say there's no one out there for Floyd that is an A+/A type fighter currently, but Floyd won't even take on the A- type guys either. He has been content to show his greatness against C+ to B+ range opponents. He's not fighting bums, but neither is he fighting truly threatening foes by that standard.

At 147, Pacquiao and Bradley(though a moot point now).
At 154, Lara, GGG(said he was willing to drop weight), Martinez(also said it)

And Floyd has fought at Light Middleweight three times now against belt holders, and been at Welterweight for longer than SRL was in his career. Regardless of how "small" he is, he is a full-fledged Welter and proven at 154. Fighting Lara, GGG, and Martinez there is not a stretch, nor would it be one for him to go to 160 lbs. But Floyd is who he is, and it's not going to happen.
