Why is Amir Khan such an underachiever?

he's not an underacheiver, hes a B level fighter who was heralded as an A level fighter with A level expectations

 

Considering the flaws he's got - a horribly unreliable punch resistence with a terrible defence for protection - I think he's managed to achieve quite a lot.

Main criticism of him is his ring IQ. Hasn't shown (or maintained) any notable improvements in the last 18 or so months.

 

After seeing him get put down and wobbled by no punchers at domestic level I thought he wouldn't reach world level, he's done very well.

 

Depends how you want to look at it- You could say he's overachieved for someone with a poor defence and no chin, or you could say he's underachieved as a pro because he has lost 3 fights he really shouldn't have and has the offensive skills to be a top p4p fighter. I tend to lean more towards the 2nd, I really think he has the talent to be a dominant champion at a couple more weights, sadly his refusal to box rather than fight will stop him reaching his potential

Still think he can win a world title

 

Khan is a world class pro, albeit with amatuer, flaws you don't win multiple world titles beating some top class opponents without being world class. As someone said depends on how you view it. Khan was written off as domestic level after Prescott, from that view point has has overachieved.

 

Nail on the head, he just doesn't have any rings smarts whatsoever. It's so frustrating to see a guy with great physical gifts who is too stupid to utilise them effectively. I know it's been done to death, but his team are a big reason for his failings, he's done what Naz did towards the end of his career and surrounded himself with family and mates who give him no constructive criticism, they basically just sit around telling him how great he is all the time. Saj's comments on twitter after the Garcia fight proved that. All the 'Amir is a warrior' shite, he's a ****ing boxer and if he wants to fulfill his potential he needs to learn to box instead of standing and trading with everyone he fights. He's recessed massively from the Kotelnik fight.

 

Freddie Roach is all wrong for him IMO, he seems to fight in the Pacman mould of walk forward and throw lots of shots quickly. In this way he hasn't really progressed from the amateur style of fighting.

He's got speed but a horrible chin and poor ring IQ - I think Manny would do wonders for him. Although saying that I don't like him so seeing him sparked is always quite funny (as long as he's fine afterwards of course).

 

The fact that he's ******ed, may have something to do with it...
