He's right were he should be. He needs to fight someone with a pulse. Collazo is a step in the right direction but I would have rather seen him face clottey or Cotto.
He isnt even top 5 to watch in his division. I'd rather watch Cotto, Margarito, Cintron, Williams, Clottey and Mosely...
I find him to be an exciting, skilled fighter, also. The coming few years we'll be seeing him continue to step up the right direction and win a belt or two. I am very surprised at how underrated he is around here - it's as if people only look at his opponents, and don't see the skills that he has. I see so much talent there in his speed, power, accuracy, reflexes, that I think it's inevitable he'll be a champion someday. Many around here actually think Callazo is going to beat him down, but I think the opposite is true - he'll beat the hell out of Callazo, and after that I'd like to see him go for somelike Clottey. After that, who knows - Mosley maybe (?).
For the most part, I agree with you. The guy really gets slepped on in this forum. The Collazo fight is a good step up. That fight will tell a lot about the young man. I definately look foward to seeing how his career progresses.
Mosley shouldn't even be a ranked WW. As for the main post. Berto is well on his way, he just needs to step it up in competition. He holds the WBC. Unify soon Im guessing. But that combo you are talking about was awesome. Forbes was stunnd near evertime.
With the Margo/Cotto rematch in the works for mid '09, I think Berto will end up landing a fight with either Cintron ot Clottey.. Berto's good, but I don't see him winning against Cotto, Margo, or Clottey..
Great analyst.:good To answer your question their are people who aren't giving him much respect because he has fought on HBO on numerous occasions against average or belong average competition. I think because he has been on tv as often as he has people have a higher exception of him whether or not his experience warrants it. Should Berto perform well against his next opponent Collazo who represents Berto's toughest opposition to date, it should indeed silence some of his critics.
I new someone would argue that and so I put him as the 6th fighter I'd rather see at WW. So you see, I still ranked 5 ahead of him.
every time someone feints, he flinches. Its pretty bad. actually i didn't see his fight against Forbes so maybe he doesn't do it anymore.
Awesome post mate, don't let some of the morons here worry you. I've been here since 05 as well, despite what it says under my avatar, and he is hideously under rated on this forum. A lot of people don't understand his style, which is what i attribute most of it to. This guy is one of my favourite fighters in boxing at the moment. I just love watchign him fight. He reminds me A LOT of Shane Mosley. A guy who is very strong, and prefers to use his strength and his blazing offense to overwhelm you, rather than utilising a lot of movement and looking for counter punching opportunity. He is an excellent combination puncher, and his uppercut is leathal, probably my favourite punch in boxing at this point in time. This guy will definitely be a force at welterweight.
You should watch his recent fights, the guy has improved leaps and bounds. Definitely not the same limited fighter we saw earlier in his career.
