I think he has great natural talent, but will most likely be koed by the top 3 welters (williams, margo, cotto), and I'm not eve sure if I would pick him over mosley or cintron at this point. I know he is a work in progress, but getting seriously hurt by a cosme rivera who judah koed in 3 still sticks in my head. A good finisher like cotto, margo, or williams won't let him off the hook if they have him in trouble.

I have no problems with people being axcited about the guy he has a lot to like in the offensive realm.

My problem with him that I have stated since he has turned pro is on the defensive side. He leaves his hands low after he punches and is overly open to counter shots. With his aggressive style I think a good counter puncher will give him trouble.

I think we will see a real yardstick measurment from him after the Collazo fight as Collazo is a good counter puncher. Collazo might fight scared though and ull see the same result as Hatton.

To be fair but, Rivera isn't a bad puncher, and Berto got careless and got hit with something he never saw coming. Those sort of punches hurt everyone, regardless of chin. Since that time his chin has been rock solid.

My question would be -Why is he so overrated?

He never fought anyone challenging ever ,but all of his recent fights was on HBO.

First time in his pro carrier he is about face a real fighter in Collazo
who is known to be not a dangerous puncher

Lets get back to him after the Collazo fight

You have no idea of the concept of a prospect do you?

Who would you have a young developing welterweight fight? Marg, Cotto, Mayweather?? :patsch

imo alot of people tend to say cotto was overrated "after" his loss to margo. i honestly think margo, williams, and cotto are that good and are not overrated. they are great fighters to their own styles. if these 3 were not terrorizing this division at the moment, i'll bet andre would of been the most talked about welter. the guy is eerily similiar to meldrick taylor with the exception of having a bigger punch. imo the reason he might be underrated at the moment is that he hasn't been tested yet with an elite or name welter other than forbes. forbes was one tough cat and has the credentials, but his best days are behind him as are oscars. i would love to see berto with cintron or clotty, but he is going in the right direction with fighting collazo, a difficult southpaw who's fought both mosley and hatton. if berto would beat clotty, who is in his prime, especially in impressive fashion, you can be sure he won't be underrated anymore

He still does. There were also quite a few moments against Forbes where he looked inept due to Forbes' slick style.

I like Berto a lot as a prospect...but the problem is he's caught in between the dangerous middle ground of not being a prospect but yet not being legit. His biggest win is over a well above his weight (and talent level) Stevie Forbes. Offensively he's a fluid athlete with pretty much every tool you'd want.

The questions lie on chin, defense and heart and he really needs that sort of fight to quell all those questions about him. I think he'll handle Collazo easily btw.

exactly, i agree with all you said....he's a work in progress and he is developing nicely, he used to have a sloppy defense and tryed to finish every fighter with one punch...but now he places he punches well, keeps steady pressure, and his defense is well underrated, not to mention he does what alot of young fighters don't do, uppercut on the inside, and bang to the body, he's easily top 3 talent prospects out there, i'd say he's #2 only second to Juanma

but yeah the man's developing nicely especially for someone who doesn't have a super trainer in his corner.....

and people need to stop giving him **** about fighting the fighters he's fought, i mean he's only been a pro for 4 short years, there aren't many fighters who step up and fight world class opposition in this point of there careers especially if there in one of the best divisions in boxing like the WW division

but yeah, give the man props his been stepping up his competition since he won the title, he's not just in there with bums padding his record untill Margarito moves up, Mosley retires, and Cotto's the only one left, lets give the man his credit where its due

Berto lost the right to be called a prospect once he won that Championship.
Now it's time to show & prove. Let's see what ya got Berto.

just give him some time I mean he's doing his best right now and I think he would keep on improving. The Collazo fight is a good direction for him and I expect him to beat him with his boxing ability and his speed. Don't get me wrong Colloazo is a good fighter and he does pose a threat to Berto right now but Berto should win this fight. How good is Berto? Well we dont know right now, it's kins of early to tell and Im not going to right him off just because he is not in the spot light but I think he going in to the right direction.

Exactly. Rivera turned south paw and caught Berto with an uppercut that Berto never saw coming. It was a savy move and a good punch by Rivera that just about any other welter would have gotten kd by. It was however Berto's fault for getting wreckless with his attck which enabled Rivera to land that punch. Berto dominated the fight prior the KD and continued to dominate afterwards so I think the KD is a bit overstated on these boards. He's hasn't shown a weak chin before or since that fight and has improved upon his defense so I think it's really a non issue.
