I probably don't qualify to answer as I'm not much of a fan. Any who, pillow yawn style and personality of a pancake.
I heard Ward Kovalev only sold 97k. I don't have a credible source for that but don't let that stop everyone spreading that number around a gospel.
Big fan myself. I like the way he adapts to win fights. Great fighter. (Kovalev is a great fighter too, they both could fight in any era imo)
I think they could too. Doesn't change my opinion that good old American bias jobbed Kovalev out of a hard fought win.
Boxing has no more superstars that have not already faced a superstar. Ward never faced a superstar and he knows that. You guys know that too so why play dumb? This is the same reason why GGG wants to face Canelo because he is not considered a superstar and won't be until he faces one. Ward needs to just retire if he is going to and stop the B.S.. There is no more money to get from a rematch and it will probably sell less PPVs. People like showmanship outside the ring to get emotionally involved with the fight inside the ring. That Super Six Series was gold though. That was really mostly about Andre Dirrell and him fighting all the Europeans more than anything.
Lack of knockouts Lack of anyone being able to pass him a torch Lack of sustaining momentum Lack of proper marketing and networking on his part
I think Ward has great technique; one of the best boxers in the world today. I can appreciate the skills. However it's just too dreary to watch. Boxing, at its best, should be exciting. You want to be on the edge of your seat. You want action. No one really wants to watch a guy spoil and maul his way to victory no matter how good he is at it. There is more to boxing than just skills. There are plenty of boxers out there who have skills, but they also deliver good, entertaining fights. I really wonder what some fans are buying into when they get behind a fighter like Ward.
Im behind Ward. Because i love watching his IQ on display, I like seeing the range of that IQ, and hes usually willing to fight and test himself against the best even if he can be a diva at times. (You wondered why people got behind him so figured id respond) But I admit I can see why he doesn't appeal to everyone.
When I first scored the fight watching it live...had it for Kovalev by two points...rewatched it scored it 1 point for Ward...But with that said, personally I think the first time you watch a fight live is the only time your score should really count...because you don't know the results. I think the fight was close, and won't argue either way...just my 2 cents...cheers. Personally I like BOTH fighters.
