I don't understand it. I expect Canelo to win but Angulo is probably the second best fighter he has faced (maybe third, I don't think highly of Trout, Angulo didn't get shutout against Lara). A few things about Angulo: He is a natural 154 pound fighter (bigger than Canlo). He has better stamina than Canelo. He has good power. Canelo has been feasting on guys smaller and I'd say less skilled than Angulo. Canelo also does not have stamina to fight 12 rounds, if he gasses against Angulo it is way different than gassing against Floyd or Trout. All that said, Canelo is the better boxer. And Angulo has been stopped in his last two fights. His chin is maybe a question mark (although against Kirkland he shot his wad). I view this as a 60/40 type fight in Canelo's favor. Betting on Angulo is good value IMO.
He was +650 just a day or two ago on the site I use. He's now at +450. A lot of money is coming in on Angulo.
The odds are ridiculous. But I wouldn't be surprised if it ends in a controversial decision for Alvarez.
Sounds like a good chance to make some loot. The fight is a toss-up for me at 50/50. Angulo is going to put a lot of pressure on Canelo.
If this goes to the cards, who do you think will get the decision? Pretty dang obvious. Bet on Angulo by Ko and cover that bet with Alvarez by ud.
IB, I assume you are envisioning a fairly comfortable Canelo victory? Always intrigued to hear your thoughts...
I have to respectfully disagree. I think his problem is he gets into destruction mode instead of using his head. He should have been patient with Kirkland instead of blowing his wad. He should have backed off a bit on Lara in the later rounds, Lara has been shown in the past to put it on cruise control. Also, he has beaten some good fighters (like Julio, Rosado, Alcine). He gave Lara a tough fight. When looking at Canelo's resume, I don't think his top three wins are more impressive than those (Trout is probably better than those three but it falls off quite a bit after that). I've said Canelo is the better boxer (and I believe is more skilled). But he shouldn't be an overwhelming favorite IMO. Angulo can also crack, he dropped Lara twice, stopped Rosado quicker than GGG, and has stopped some durable opponents (like Gutierrez for example). If Canelo is packing glass, he might be in trouble. My conclusion is just that as a gambler, +500 is too good of odds to pass up.
