Why is Arreola v. Stiverne World HW Title Bout being shown on a USC College Campus, instead of the traditional Las Vegas or Atlantic City??

I know the STAPLES CENTER is booked for the NBA Playoffs, but there are many better arenas to show the World Heavyweight Title fight instead of a college campus?

There's something fishy about this promotion.

1.) its was downgraded to ESPN , because HBO and SHOWTIME were not interested in airing this fight

and now 2.) its being shown on a college campus??:think

What is Goosen and Don King trying to do? ....... Disrespect Vegas?

    .

    what's fishy?

the heavyweight division is not as big as it used to be and this is NOT for the crown of being the true, legitimate, lineal, universally recognised number 1 heavyweight of the world.

Their first fight was not boring, and had action like most HW bouts lately shown on HBO and SHOWTIME.

But why is this rematch being downgraded in different ways?

    Exactly.

If it was a non-title 10 round fight, then it would be normal to be shown on ESPN, and on a USC College campus.

But a 12-Round WBC World Heavyweight Title fight?

In past years, about 90% of WBC HW Title fights have been shown on HBO and in Vegas/Atlantic City arenas.

    But this is strange.

I think Goosen and Don King are playing games with Vegas/Atlantic City and the fans.

showtime or hbo did not show wladimir vs chageav live and the Ring magazine recognised that fight as a Lineal Title fight.

i understand the green wbc belt is prestigious but its a paper belt in this isntance.

    wlad is the True Champion.

and i dont think its strange.

the premier fighter in the division is wlad and he is not popular in america so why would showtime or hbo invest money into this fight.

While Wlad & Vitali reigned as HW champs, they had their own K2 Promotions and own TV contract deal in Europe, and HBO was criticized by the media for no longer having HW Title bouts.

Now that they have American (of Mexican decent) Arreola, they turn their back on him, despite airing many of his past fights before.

Im not an Arreola fan, and I think he sucks somewhat.

Im just talking from a regular boxing point of view, in general, as to this World HW Title bout being slipped a bit under the radar.

I'd rather watch arreolla vs stiverne , than featherfisted atg's like Hopkins or Maywether. This is good fight it should have been on HBO

Why not on USC's campus?? One of the biggest colleges in the world bro!

Mllion of more people have ESPN then HBO/Showtme, this is an upgrade.

U have no idea whats going on

ESPN is mainly for up and coming prospects, that later get upgraded to bigger contracts and sign with HBO or SHOWTIME.

ESPN is a springboard to the major HBO, SHOWTIME, PPV's.

Arreola having fought on HBO many times, and now fights on ESPN, is kinda like taking a couple steps back.

If the Team/Promotions want to do it for the fans and get more exposure, then they should show the fight on Free TV, like Mike Tyson fought before.

@boxing truth, I get what you are saying, you make some good points but it's probably as much as hbo got tired of low viewing figures for wlads fights coupled with espns willingness to invest money into showing hw fights

basicly the way i seen it, its on espn because the promoters will make more $ % wise than if they went with hbo or sho...also its at a college campus in order to help sell seats, the promoters figure cheap seats on a saturday night on campus....they are expecting this will not only fill the seats up, but also make for a more ambiant hostile crowd with a bunch of young drunk kids....

this is basicly king and goosens way of making the most out of this fight...they knew that even on hbo or sho the fight would not be watched any more than if on espn, and it would just cost more % out their pocket as well....
