Hopkins is a well known racist? Can you show me any proof he has ever said he didn't like white people? And a cherry picker? Can you show me 10 active fighters with a better resume? Lol, your posts drip with condescension and hate.

No doubt it was an ignorant comment, but that doesn't make the man a racist. I mean wasn't it Hopkins who was helping that young cancer patient? He was white. Would a racist go out of his way to help someone from a race he supposedly hated? I don't condone what he said, but I do understand where he comes from and how he was brought up talking. Ignorant doesn't mean racist.

 

It doesnt mean he hates white people per se, I dont know, but believing yourself to be superior on grounds of race, certainly seems a racist remark, I cant see how it isnt?

Saying hes a 'product of his environment' is a bit like saying white kids in the 1920s in the deep south cant be condemned for being racist pigs because it was their environment. The man is nearly 50 years old.

I hope it was a off the cuff comment, partly to sell a fight, partly heat of the moment, but the point I made about the white athlete scenario, would certainly be true.

However, I know Hopkins has made comments regarding Don McNabb not being 'black enough', so maybe Bernard has just been punched in the head too many times.

 

I'm not trying to say his mentality about race is a product of his enviorment, just his vocabulary. And I do think it was meant to hype the fight. That doesn't excuse it for being callous and ignorant, I just don't see him as a racist. I think Hopkins thinks he's better than anyone else regardless of race. Its an arrogance thing that most great athletes have been cursed with. Larry Bird for instance didn't think anyone could stop him, knew he was the best player on the court and always wanted the ball. I don't think that makes him a racist. Hopkins made a stupid comment, but this is a guy who regularly works with white people and who has given much of his time to helping a dying white boy. That is not avracist in my opinion.
