Why is being undisputed suddenly a common thing?

I'm actually glad more fighters are taking that route of winning all the titles and beating every champion in the division. It just means that we are seeing fighters take on everyone around their weight class before moving up. We need to see that more often.

Reason is simple, they want to be World champion.
We’ve had to put up with countless second and third raters and their alphabet plastic belts for far too long.
Long may this continue and roll on a proper governing body taking over from these “cowboy” cartels.

Ya I was wondering this too. Kinda odd.

One of the few things the current era in boxing is doing right.

When Hopkins did it , it was very rare to do. But also at the time, there was a much bigger emphasis on the Ring title. At the time when you were considered Ring champ it was seen as the True champ of the division where it was passed from the man who beat the man or the top 2 in the division facing off to start a new line. I know the Ring still holds weight, but i don't hear it talked about much anymore. I think somewhat because of HBO out of the boxing game, and they were really big on Ring ratings.
Either way its great to see, but i wish all the divisions could get unified , and the fighters say **** the belt organizations and form a single governing body with 1 champ again. It'll never happen though, too much money to be made calling a guy a champ who's never even beaten a top 5 ,sometimes a top 10 in their division they call themselves a champ.

I'd like to think a new generation of fighters who are starting to realize how dumb the whole 4 belt nonsense is but who knows.

Because the alphabets decided there were too many champions after all of the backlash
