His defense sucks, he's a weight bully, his footwork is subpar, he doesn't have good head or waist movement...

Why do some of you ride him hard?

I don't get the hype either. I can't even explain it as Canelo haters looking for an adversary for Canelo as it's been building for years even before that fight looked likely. He's about to fight an out of retirement Gvozdyk at 175 which I'd say will be his sternest test to date which just exposes how poor his opposition is.

Maybe others are seeing something I am missing. He's decent enough but I don't see greatness here unless he has an iron chin and iron will to match because his skills are not that impressive to me.

Gvozdyk has a very good chance of winning this

Because Saul keeps ducking him. Seriously. If you care to, search my posts. I've been picking Canelo to win by a bodyshot. But at this point, it looks like a duck job. Quak fkn quak.

I think Canelo is trying to marinate this fight.

Any true boxing fan with an IQ over 85 knows that DB is not on par with Golovkin, Bivol, and even Kovalev who was a master boxer.

Are you implying that I'm stupid? Don't be shy. We will likely never be within arms reach. This is the nature of hyperconnectivity. Be free. Let it out, bro.

This is what I suspect too, but maybe I've been made too cynical with how the boxing business operates. I try not to get drawn into the hype surrounding anticipated match ups. So much **** gets thrown around by fans on both sides it's hard to remain detached from the vitriol and hype. Accusations get thrown around about ducking fights so often and most times it eventually happens and it does nothing for Canelo to delay the fight as he's the older man.

If he is overrated it’s because he comes to fight and is great to watch.

It's based purely on the fact that Canelo is refusing to fight him.

He's big, strong, undefeated, prime and is being avoided.

Given the people Canelo has fought in his career, refusing to fight Benavidez is quite telling.

    Two thoughts:
    - Boxing fans have always been keen to hype come-forward large men. Remember Jarrett Hurd or Jarrell Millar, quite a few thought they were unstoppable too and they are less skilled than Benavidez.
    - It seems the industry thinks he's pretty good. I also don't see what's special about him apart from size, but I have this inkling that I'm missing something. Sparring partners have said that he's actually quite skilled so there is that too.

I think Canelo has got annoyed (read p***** off) with Benavidez and doesn't want to give him a payday, regardless of fan pressure.

I also think the size makes it a challenging fight at this stage of Canelo's career and he's not sure he wants to go through that having proven himself so many times. He'd probably have fought Benavidez already if he thought it was an easy KO win. I probably rate him a bit higher than you both, because he backs up his size with decent skills unlike the other examples listed above.

Yeah that's definitely something fans do. I recall Paul Williams emerging on the scene, everyone hoping he was another Hearns despite the fact he always gave up his height and reach. Callum Smith too, it does seem tall fighters get fans believing they are something they are perhaps not.

I too wonder if I am missing something. I recall when Froch was a prospect, I was not impressed, his skills were not impressive to me, he was too easy to hit. But then he proved he had a chin of iron and limitless self belief and will. If Benavidez has those attributes then he may very well be far better than his skills currently show.

The only thing Canelo is marinating is a duck.

Because he's an American who is exciting and hits hard, both of which are made even more visible by the fact that he fights cans. He's a weight bully with bad fundamentals but he's also a come forward brawler from America, so he must be P4P right? Once his enormous weight advantage diminishes at LHW and he actually has to fight good fighters, people won't be claiming he's P4P anymore. He's another product of the PBC hype machine imo. Hope he proves me wrong though, he seems like a nice kid.

Because he's fearless and has a killer instinct. And because he fights with intensity and hasn't shown any great weakness yet. I'm not buying a front row ticket to the hype train, but DB is pretty darn good to my eyes. Maybe he beats Canelo and maybe not, but he's a worthy challenger and there's actually suspense and intrigue about how that fight plays out.
