I'm reviving this one - right now I'm laughing my ass off at some of the replies that this thread got. I guess some folk are looking pretty stupid now. Ah well, on behalf of us who could see things a bit more clearly all I hope is that you learned your lesson.
If you rate Hopkins on past achievements, he must be ranked pretty high, but if you rank him on how good he really is right now, he's definitely not in the top 25-30 best fighters in the world anymore.
I don't think he should be. He hasn't fought a live fighter in a year and a half. That's a long time, surely they can find a few more deserving people by now?
Pacquiao Haye Adamek Vitali Klit Paul Williams Tim Bradley Mayweather Mosley JMM Froch Dawson And more....
Ok keep in mind that Hopkins was extremely competitive with Calzaghe and has beaten Tarver, Wright and Pavlik in that time frame. With that out of the way...Vitali? Williams? Mayweather? Bradley? JMM? Who have any of these guys beaten in the last 3 years that compares with B-Hop's wins over Tarver, Wright and Pavlik?
Tarver was in 2006. Hopkins only 2 wins of note in the past 3 years are LMW Wright at 170 and MW Pavlik at 170.
Exactly. 2 weight classes above the weight they normally fight at. Hopkins is an ATG fighter, without doubt. He's also fighting unbelievably well for a man his age. This argument was going in another thread a few days ago. In an age for age list, Hopkins is no 1 without doubt. But he shouldn't be ranked so high in p4p based on his last 3 or 4 years, even if the losses were close. It's even stronger when you consider that really he's been fighting invites only since leaving middleweight.
Taylor. Was same weight. Calzaghe. Came up a division to fight him. They're just guys Hopkins has actually fought.
