yeah he looks fresh. but the reasons mentioned by posters above (esp constant conditioning, few beatings, low stress, little drugs/alcohol) will keep him in good shape at 36 which is only a few years off 30-31 (man's average peak time period)
I think the fact that Calzaghe hasnt been afraid to pull out of fights through injury has helped him last so long. A lot of boxers would have still fought not at 100% where he has saved himself.
^^ exactly jasedikio.... he was looking ******edly fresh and ready against jones.. maybe he just hit prime later then most do because his career as far as fighting high level comp started a bit later than most
Dude, like I said, you feast on nice, steady, well-balanced diet of Eurobums and you'll stay young forever. You'll have the energy of a 20 year old kid, I swear. I've lost a little pep in my step lately, too, and I've been considering flying all the way to London, Brussels, Prague, Berlin or somewhere over there to see if I can dine on some of the native delicacies to "get my groove back," so to speak.
Joe is still very good, but he's slipping. He's had a long peak, but since the hand injuries, he has completely changed his style. His power while still effective is no where what it once was. He's picked up the pressure to. He used to let his opponents move forward and counter the **** out of them and pressure the 2nd half of the fight, now he pressures his opponents until they wilt from the opening bell. He's done all this with a jazz musician in his corner. He can adapt like no one else in the ring, and will always take away what you do best. A boxing genius.
His dad enzo is more of a fitness trainer, he does deal with tactics etc. but mainly motivates and gets fighters in shape. Joe does not do gym work, as in weight training. its all boxing and fitness. I'm sure those long welsh countryside runs have somethin to do with it!lol.
Well said, also, Roy started at 160 and went all the way up too 200, then back down to 175. That takes a lot out of u as well over the years.
