I think he just has boyish good looks, he`s awful at speaking, he`s a poor man`s De La Hoya.

Joshua had the platform of a home Olympics that gave him exposure on a level that few boxers ever experience. He's also been well promoted. Matching him vs Whyte, undefeated Brit heavy vs another undefeated Brit heavy with the revenge story for the amateur loss was smart from Hearn. Picked up an early title too which was costly for Matchroom but it paid dividends as it took Joshua to another level. The Wlad fight too was huge for Joshua not just that he won but how he won, that took Joshua to the level he's at know. All that combined with the boom in UK boxing, where even a gate keeper like Chisora is a PPV attraction, it was never going to be hard to make Joshua a star in the UK.

Canelo being Mexican has a built in fan base. But of course not every Mexican is popular, JMM often fought much of his early career in obscurity despite his ability. But Canelo too was well promoted, but the thing that turned him from just another Mexican champion to superstar status was the Mayweather fight. That exposed him to a wider fan base beyond the normal boxing hardcore much like how the Olympics did the same for Joshua. The Cotto fight was a smart move too, Mexican vs Puerto Rican is always going to get the Mexican fans behind the Mexican fighter. Mexican boxing fans are some of the sports most loyal and passionate so once he had their support stardom was inevitable.

Crawford and Spence have never had that platform like AJ and Canelo to expose them to fans beyond the boxing hardcore. There was no Mayweather for them or Olympics. Spence almost got Pac but we all know what happened then. Even of they fought each other I doubt they'd reach the levels of popularity that Canelo and AJ have. Pac really was their last chance of the break out fight to take them to the mainstream but neither of them were able to make it happen.
