I mean absolutely no disrespect to canelo, he's a good young fighter with a lot of potential especially if he works on his speed and stamina but why is he such a big draw?

Especially considering the shutout by Mayweather, i thought he would become another Guerrero and slip into obscurity.

Is it the whole latino thing or is there some kind of story line i missed or is he a talented talker like Paulie?

He was popular before Mayweather. He's skilled, smart, and has power. He's no Robert Guerrero.

    He different that's all.

If he was paid on skills, not looks he wouldn't make near a million dollars.

Yea i just meant usually when a hyped fighter gets schooled it cools his mojo down, yet Canelo's popularity doesn't seem to be affected.

So it's his looks that do most of the selling? No homo but he's no oscar in looks...although i have heard people mention lemieux, danny garcia and a few other fighters looks and they are all pretty hyped. Guess looks have a bigger impact than we thought.

people like to hype unproven mediocrity i guess.

having only one win of merit against a middle of the road, bland Austin Trout, seems to get you in the top ten P4P in the world it seems.

beating a long list of the very best around on the other hand, doesn't even get you in for most people.

maybe it's because most people are ****ing idiots?

yep, that's it. factually and logically it points to being just that.

lmao the kid is 23. He's hardly mediocre. He may not be p4p yet but he might just be in the future.

    Several reasons
1 He's Mexican, mexicans are big supporters of boxing both in the US and at home it's a boxing mad country and they tend to always have a star or two they get behind.

2 He's young, being so young but being at such a high level has meant for a while he has been looked on as the future of the sport anyone has an interest in boxing will throw their weight behind someone who can crossover mainstream.

3 Fighting Style- His style is exciting his fights entertain crowd pleasing and he has power to stop people.

4 Looks- No doubt about it the ladies like Canelo, maybe not on Oscar level but he's a good looking kid and is quite distinct looking with the red hair so he draws a female audience the vast majority of fighters don't.

5 Backing and promotion- GB have hyped him heavily for years massive exposure on Mayweather undercards for years he has more backing then any young fighter in boxing the full weight of GB and Showtime behind him.

6 Need- Let's face it boxing needs stars, Floyd and Manny won't be around much longer and Canelo is the clearest example of a guy who can cross over and become a big ppv star sometimes in boxing stars come along when their needed SRL after Ali, Tyson in the late 80s Mayweather and Pacqiao when ODLH retired Canelo has come along at the right time when boxing needs a new star to emerge.

He is the best Mexican fighter today, with the possible exception of the aging Marquez.

Most latinos worship and look up to whites. Ignorant of their own past and how they became indian spanish speaking converts. That's a part of his popularity amongst many latinos sadly

    Who else do they have???

Marquez is on his way out....Jr. is a Bum and they all know it.

I just don't see Canelo getting any better...I think he peaked and is
ripe for the taking from Lara!!!

Antonia Margarita can always make a comeback.....he seems to have a large blind following groupie Nuthuggers here on this Forum!!!!

He shouldn't be there at the minute but i actually rate the kid highly, i mean he's very young so is still learning yes he lost to Floyd he got the tactics all wrong inexperience at that level cost him but i don't write him off on that, He clearly has tons of ability power, good chin, fast hands, decent defense as shown vs Trout. He needs to improve his stamina and also not to load up on every shot but he is young and can improve these things i don't doubt in 2-3 years he will be a clear top 5 p4p fighter and the biggest draw in boxing i think he will beat Lara and shut a lot of doubters up.
