Why is Clottey so underrated

Because of under achivement. He lost to Baldomir, Margarito and Cotto . . . all on title fights. :deal

 

He can't win the big one. Very good fighter, but he just can't take that step to great status because he can't win the big one.

 

If anything he's vastly overrated. His claim to fame is decisioning a weight drained Corrales and being robbed in the Cotto and Margaritoe fights.

 

Yes he does . . . he is a solid fighter but like I said . . . an under achiver . . . and besides not a very famous one because he is a defensive fighter.

 

He's got strikes against him. He's African, he's a counter-puncher who underwhelms the audience with his style, he is too high a risk for too low a reward for most big name fighters to bother with. We all know Cotto will step in with anybody, which is why they fought. Clottey will never be the guy to get close decisions, or close rounds. I think he's a terrific fighter with a ton of physical durability but there you go.

 

He used to be underrated, before Cotto.

Now, he gets just as much adoration as a solid B+/A- fighter ,with his style, could realistically get.

 

He isn't underrated. He is what he is, a B+ fighter with a good skill set but lacking a 12 round championship fighter mentality.

 

Yeah exactly, there's much easier fights to take.

I hope he gets another title shot at some point, he's good to watch.

 

I don't think he underrated. He's a solid welter with a good all around skillset who would give a lot of very good fighters a tough time and he's certainly one of the better fighters of this era. But, really, he's lost to the best guys he's fought. He lost to a cut and partially blind Cotto, and was soundly beaten by Margarito. His best wins are over lightweight Diego Coralles, past prime Zab Judah then Shamone Alvarez and Richard Gutierrez. Not exactly inspiring. He's a step below the likes of Margo, Cotto and Mosley, on the level of Berto, Callazo, Quintana and Cintron.

 

Berto could turn out to be good yet, lets see how he does against Mosley.

 

IMO, he is not an impressive fighter to watch as he is more of a defensive than offensive fighter, kind of like Winky. Not too fun to watch! I love the style but you cant expect a massive knock out or exciting fight from him. Love his style though, he is not the running type!

 

cuz hes limited ....in skill
