He is willing to fight Cotto at 154 lbs the division he currently fights at though.

I don't think it is at all. Cotto's solid fundamentals could tame Martinez's style, especially if he forces Sergio to lead.

  4. Because 87% of the posters only repeat what someone else said. Right now it is trendy to assume Cotto loses "easily" to Sergio because Sergio fights with his hands at his sides and landed a haymaker on Williams.

    yeah... that's the logic. :patsch

It's not unimaginable at all. They're around the same size and, I would argue, top 10 p4p. Sergio would simply start as favourite, which he should.

If Cotto can control the tempo, then he has a great shot because he does have the better fundamentals. If not, Martinez will knock him out brutally.

Difference in power is huge.. Add Sergio's better punch resistance and do the math.

Well Cotto has looked spent in his last 5 fights.

Margarito 2011 - Looked great but he was backpedaling and finding it hard
Mayorga 2011 - should have gotten him out sooner, Fluke KO
Foreman 2010 - One legged fighter he took too long to beat
Pacquiao 2009 - Looked good in the opening stages but crumbled when he got hit
Clottey 2009 - Struggled with clottey in an ugly fight

After all the wear and tare how can you honestly see a prime Martinez losing to Miguel Cotto? dont get me wrong im a big fan of Miguel but at this stage I dont see him surviving more than 5 rounds tops.

This fight would have been more interesting back in 09' before the Williams and Pacquiao fights.

ok maybe a slight over exaggeration but you cant deny he is the top fighter at middleweight, not to mention a top p4p fighter, besides he is a more complete fighter now than when he was a few years ago after the experience from the two williams and Pavlik fights.

Good enough. Now answer me this, if Cotto were to beat him, if. How is Martinez coming down to 154 considered a middleweight win for Cotto, or anyone else that fights him at that weight for that matter?

I never said it would be a middleweight win, only that Martinez is the top fighter at middleweight and would likely rehydrate up to near 160-165 on fight night. that alone given the way Margarito was able to do fairly well at hitting cotto in the rematch, imagine what a more technical boxer like Martinez would do? im sorry but if you get a guy knocking out guys at 160 then someone of cottos size is hardly going to bother you

Can't argue with you there. I never understood how you agree to a weight, but you don't have to be at that weight come time to step in the ring.
