Had he beat Margarito he would have been well on his way to being at the elite level. Too bad he's too dumb for that.

im just answering the question presented of if

if they do fight cotto would be a massive underdog in my eyes

but if cotto were to win his stock sky rockets based on the fact i give him little to no shot

Damn, I forgot about those two, again Cotto 140 pound resume is a good resume, I love how determined Cotto was in the Pinto fight.

I think Cotto has a better shot at beating Martinez than Margarito to be honest.

its very simple, he only has 2 losses against two guys that MAY cheated and he still held his own, thats pretty good

notice that i said May, im not 100% sure

I always felt Cotto was overrated, most Puertoricans felt that had he beaten Marg he would be great, but had his ass handed to him and most likely will happen a second time unless Marg's eye hasn't healed.

Cotto is a consumate professional. Well-rounded fighter, great body work with some nice wins. He beat Mosley years ago and the best version of Zab Judah to ever step in the ring. His only two losses have question marks surrounding them.

I would have loved to see Cotto fight PBF a few years back. Unfortunately, PBF "retired" until 147 calmed down.

Cotto always shows up in shape, gives it his all and handles himself with class. That's a lot more than PBF can say. He deserves the love.

Mayweather beats judah after he loses to Baldomir and its a joke. Cotto beats Judah after he loses to Baldomir and Mayweather in his previous 2 fights and after 10 low blows and he is amazing.

He's certainly a step (or three) above Kessler, but no, he's not an ATG. He might make it into the HOF. Maybe. If he can beat Margo and maybe get a few JMW defenses I think he would make it in for sure. If he beats Sissy Sergio it would be huge for him.

Cotto is underrated. I've heard him called a B level fighter on here. B level fighters don't have the level competition he's had and go 16-2 in title fights across 3 divisions, with his only losses coming to unstoppable forces at the time, who have each since been accused of being career cheats. He can match his boxing skills with the best of them. Zab Judah is a B level fighter and overrated. Paulie Malignaggi is a B level fighter and overrated. Cotto is A level and one of the best today and a definate future HoF.

I disagree with one thing .

Comparing Cotto to Kessler is degrading Cotto as a fighter . Cotto is a very Good fighter YES ...Kessler is not .

Back on the topic... Unfortunately Cotto is not an ATG nor Great yet . I highly doubt he would ever reach ATG status tbh .
