Why is Cotto so respected? The guy only beaten bums, lost everytime he stepped up

    Because here is no reason not to respect him. He seems like a decent guy, has provided some good fights and has been a good fighter. One of the top guys in multiple divisions over quite a long time span.

    He kind of did. Right before the Canelo fight he renounced the title so that he wouldn't have to go through with paying the step aside money to GGG (or face him either). Then ODLH threatened to sue because the only reason their team took the short money was because Cotto was the champ. So Cotto backtracked. Very interesting sequence of events. I never saw it coming.

    People tend to respect four division champions who take the best opponents possible. He only fell short of that endeavor once he reached middleweight.
