There's LOTS of good boxers at 140 and 147 to choose from. There's many interesting matchups that good be made for Danny Garcia.

So why is the light welterweight champion fighting a journeyman Mauricio Herrera?

To get money without taking much risk.

    You're welcome.

(also, he's not journeyman, but one thing at a time I think).

Old Judah, Old Morales twice and now this. The only risk he took was against Matthyse and his many punches below the belt were part of his strategy.

    I'd say he's a journeyman.

His last two wins came over fighters who have 8 losses and 10 losses. In his two fights before that, he lost to Karim Mayfield who was 16-0 and to Mike Alvarado. Herrera is age 33 and has never fought for a title before.

Which offset the punches that Matthyse fired to the back of the head.

But he's got a win over Provo, who is rated number two, and gave Alvarado hell despite losing the decision. There are far less deserving fighters for Garcia to face.

He beats too many journeymen and good fighters to be a journeyman. He only loses to class fighters, so far. He's a gatekeeper type. Calling him a journeyman is silly.

It's a showcase fight for Danny, Garcia is making his debut in Puerto Rico.

    This.

Also also, 140 is one of the weakest divisions in boxing. Honestly, there isn't all that much better than Herrera out there, really.

Two good wins. Morales was the champ when he lost to Garcia and it was one of the best fights of the year.
