Why is Dawson ducking Cleverly?

Ward is a tougher assignment than Cleverly.

Oi hold on a minute now: Cleverly is the biggest joke at LHW. There aint no bigger joke than Nathan Cleverly at LHW, he been fighting male nurses, and was lucky to get the decision vs Bellew.

 

I actually read an interview where Cleverly was saying how the fight with Hopkins could still happen soon but that there's always 'the future' for a fight with Dawson. Clev wants no part of Dawson.

 

Cleverly don't want any piece of Dawson, he'll get outboxed to a wide UD. Cleverly is only really calling out Hopkins and Enzo Macc these days..........

in all sincerity, i think theres a case of the ghost of joe calzaghe haunting all of these american hype jobs.

when dawson see's cleverly, he see's the rebirth of calzaghe
- he see's a welsh sensation with phenominal fitness and drive
- a WBO champion who has cleaned up his domestic scene
- a fighter who has had little exposure in america and what would result in a high danger / low reward fight for him

when dawson looks at clev, he not only see's clev, he see's the ghost of calzaghe . . . . . and that combined = no blueprint

dawson knows that calzaghe smashed to smitherines every overated yank in his path in brewer, mitchell, lacy, hopkins, and jones etc and his mental demons are probably getting in the way of making the cleverly fight.

dawson knows what happenned to him the last time he stopped fighting his long run of overated pensioners (tarver, johnson, hopkins) and took on a decent young gun in pascal, and deep down dawson will realise that cleverly will emerge as a far superior fighter to pascal.

i think when dawson see's ward, he see's a mirror image of himself before he lost to pascal - an overated american hypejob that had huge exposure for dominating a very weak division. by exposing the overated ward, dawson knows he will receive far greater credit in the US than he would for taking on in reality what would be a much greater challenge in cleverly.

 

dawson was already exposed prior to pascal by ageing gatekeeper glen johnson. cleverly's workrate and constant pressure would decimate dawson. mark my words GJE, clev will clear up the 175 division in the next 5 years :deal
