Actually, there was a fantasy poll (at least one) a while back and Erik did get a hefty share of backers...

As far as general hype, though, I think he's viewed in about the correct light as a great of his era in his weight range. Not too many people go overboard outside a few fanatics. The "Morales is god" thing is more a tongue-in-cheek running gag, as was the "Mijares is god" trend and the "koki kameda" meme.

 

But he has the best win. Morales beat the great Pac-man. Clean. then went balls to the floor in the 12th round.

 

Great fighter,Great Warrior was involved in some of the best fights ever, made fights harder for himself just to please the public,never ducked or cherrypicked anyone, hes a credit to boxing and boxing needs more fighters like him and this is coming from someone who's not really a fan of him.
