Between 2009-2011, he did "clean the division out" as much as you can unless expected to beat every single top 10 ranked fighter. As for moving up in weight, he should do whatever makes him feel he will be most successful, physically and financially. It would be nice for him to fight. 2 fights in the last 3 years isn't cutting it. Ward is/was one of the best in the world, but a superstar at the end of his career he is not.
No one is pushing Ward to go up in weight. I think we've all given up on Ward. You either want to fight or you don't, simple as that.
Ok smart ass I'm talking notable names or popular fighters that's not the whole division. All that other **** you talking don't really matter ward still has good fights at 168. All I hear is ward cleaned out the division it's no one for him to fight at 168. I just named 5 guys all notable names he can fight whether its a stepping stone fight or a big fight. As for GGG why is ward's name always mentioned when fans or media talk about or talk to him. Why was he gonna move up to 168 just a minute ago. Why did he claim he would fight anybody from 154 to 168. I don't care what weight ggg is fighting at now a lot of fans want to see that fight at some point.
It's clear he's the best at super middle despite his absence. When your a top P4P fighter fans want the toughest fight possible which is why some want him to test himself against Kovalev. Ward could stay at super middle and dominate a division where everyone knows he is head and shoulder above everyone else. That would do little for his legacy unless he reigns for a long time like Wlad and with his tendency to be inactive that's unlikely. People see the potential in Ward and how he is wasting it. This has led to more pressure to make the big career defining fights as it's unlikely we will see Ward fight regularly and often, so each fight has to count. When he returns he needs to make a statement. Either facing a big name or fighting regularly, at least 4 times a year.
If and when he finally finds his way out of the courtroom and back to the ring I'm good with him fighting a couple of the newer SMWs to show he's still the divisional kingpin. And if he wants to stay in the division for the rest of his career, that, too is his perogative. However it does seem to me that the bigger and more interesting fights for him are at 175, specially with the imminent retirement of Kessler and Froch. Similarly for Golovkin. I do want to see him clean out and unify at 160, but ultimately he appears to be so dominant at the weight that we're unlikely to see him really stretched (which is what I want as a fan) below the top end of SMW. The difference is that (assuming he hasn't lost a step) Ward has already proved himself clearly dominant in his division - Golovkin has yet to fight a marquee opponent at 160. Perhaps there isn't a Froch or Kessler for him to fight, but the next best thing is a Murray, a Canelo / Cotto and a Korobov / Lee. If he can get his hands on those other two belts in 2015 (as looks quite possible) I think it'll then be time for him to move up having effectively solidified his position as MW top dog.
They're big names, not all of them but they don't do much for Ward, most of them it's even doubtful whether they'd even fight him. Golovkin has business at 160, if you think Ward should stay at 168, Golovking should REALLY stay at 160.
there's a difference between not fighting every top 10 fighter in your division and not taking on your fellow belt holder. although the dominant force at smw, he didn't clean it out.
Because you can't bang on about eventually fighting at heavyweight, talk up a move to 175 and then change your mind when the division starts to look hot.
