In answer to the general question of this topic, it's because they love to hate. It doesn't matter that we're barely 32 days removed from one of the best years in boxing and already people are complaining. Wah.

As much as I would like to see Cotto/Mayweather, I didn't feel Cotto cinched the "W" in his fight with Mosley. I would very much like to see a rematch between Cotto and Mosley while Mayweather and De La Hoya finish their business. De La Hoya and Mosley are both about to go out to pasture - so it's only right that they try to get their last few major fights before hanging up the gloves for good.

There will be plenty of time for Cotto and Mayweather down the road.

RIght. This fight makes all kind of sense, and will be great for the sport. :good

Two mega name fighters fighting a warranted rematch. What's not to like about that?

Because there are better fights, and most don't feel it was "warranted". The amount of people who think DLH won that fight doesn't warrant a rematch. I would be willing to bet that nearly 75-80% feel that PBF won that match cleanly. And DLH will be a year and a 1/2 older this time.

There is no doubt that a Mayweather-Cotto fight would be a more interesting fight, a better test for Mayweather, and the bout most fans want to see.

However, to say, in regard to the possibility of Oscar beating Floyd, that this has already been proven otherwise, is not completely true.

After Duran beat Leonard in their much anticipated bout in Montreal, a similar case could have been made against a rematch. Had not Duran's superiority been proven with a unanimous decision? Why wouldn't he fight Cuevas or Hearns next ?

Delahoya lost a SD to Mayweather that most unbiased observers would rate as competitive, at least as much so as Duran's UD over Leonard. He is one of the most, if not the most, likely candidate to topple Floyd.

As it turned out, Duran DID fight both Cuevas and Hearns later. Floyd will almost certainly fight Cotto ( and probably Williams) in time. Both fighters have lots of time left. Oscar is in the twilight of his career.

There have been lots of great rematches, even trilogies. (Duran-Leonard, Ali-Frazier, Gatti-Ward, Holyfield-Bowe, etc.)

I would buy this rematch as I felt the first bout was very entertaining, and while I have no quarrel with the decision, it was far from decisive. Watch Floyd's expression as he listened to the the decision. After the third scorecard, he looked relieved.

Mayweather should fight Cotto (and others) and I believe he will, eventually.

And the longer the wait, the bigger those events will be.

Bull**** fight, with a predictable outcome. Stealing away better Fights with Mayweather challeneging either Cotto or Williams and all but giving Mayweather an excuse to duck these challenges and fight an inactive has-been he has already beat.

Because I don't care to see it. Unless it is in a sports bar or I can convince 5-10 guys to watch it I'm not paying for it.

Floyd will woop his ass worse this time

Leonard and Duran was a closer fight than DLH vs PBF IMO. Also, both were near the primes, though I would guess Duran was fading a bit. DLH is no where near his prime, has already lost in what I called a competitive but decisive match. He is only getting older and I don't feel a rematch will prove much of anything. Also, Leonard vs Duran actually was exciting the first time out.

Add on this as well. Leonard vs Duran II was a HUGE fight to be made. DLH vs PBF isn't, and there are better fights on the horizon for PBF against prime fighters in his stacked weight class. This was not the case when Leonard and Duran fought the 2nd time out. Many wanted to see that rematch, while the presence of this thread proves otherwise about PBF vs DLH II.

I also think that a majority felt PBF decisively won, and the few that think DLH won think it was very close. And they are few and far between.

because boxing also caters the casual fans who will watch dela hoya even if its for the 100th time!...this isnt the fight most on here want because its gonna get so hyped up again and then the same thing will happen...a semi-fight. Nothing to prove in this fight except that DLH is still the biggest draw in boxing today.

    Fair points.

We differ in how we saw the first fight. I felt it was far from decisive. Floyd felt the same way, as did Oscar. I think there's unfinished business.

Leonard -Duran (1) was one of the greatest and most exciting fights I've seen, and admittedly, Oscar and Floyd did not let it all hang out the way Ray and Roberto did. But I still enjoyed their earlier encounter and would like to see another bout.

As I mentioned, I believe those other Floyd match-ups are still to come. If Floyd really retired after Oscar (2), I would be very disappointed that he wasted his last fight without broadening his legacy and meeting Cotto. I would even use the 'duck' word. But Floyd will want his legacy and those fights will happen.

Finally, one has to consider the potential $$$ both these guys stand to make. Neither of them is so rich that they can afford to ignore that.

I think DLH may be so rich he can ignore any fight he chooses. Not sure on PBF, but I get your point. I just have this feeling that Mayweather is going to really retire soon, and that taking nearly a year off in between fights is alarming and leading in that direction.

We do differ on how we saw the first fight, and that is probably the decisive point on either side of the argument. I would much rather see Mayweather fight a highly rated contender if none of the champs are available than another fight with DLH.

It will be interesting to see the public reaction to this fight.

For casual fans this is a natural rematch. Biggest name meets the pound for pound king, again.

However for serious boxing aficionados, you're either vehemently for or against this redux. Stated another way, Floyd's fans want this like no other, while Floyd's critics treat this as another example of his cherry-picking whims.

However, there are the "Floyd-issue" neutrals who see this for what it is: an event that wil put boxing into the American and world media attention once again like the first fight. I'm just not sure if this fight wil have more negative than positive effects on boxing in the long run.

I am very much a PBF neutral. I just feel that its best for Boxing if the best fight the best more often.

Because the first fight made a lot of money for both of them but left a sour taste in the mouths of real boxing fans.
